What professional boxers have had no experience in amatuer boxing. Dwight Muhammad Qawi (Member of IBHOF) Curtis Cokes (Member of IBHOF) Who else...???
These guys had very little, compared to most. Larry Holmes (19-3) Chris Eubank (19-7) Julio Cesar Chavez (14-1) Roberto Duran (13-3) Rocky Marciano (9-4) Hopkins learned to box in jail like Qawi so he may have no amateur record.
It's actually not a bad thing. I don't remember any specific fighter saying this, but I know many have heard/read similar comments about breaking bad habits from their amateur experience and learning how to really fight in the pros. I know most of those fighters definitely liked to stay busy and learn on the job.
Tye Fields. Billy Conn. Peter Quillin is said to have only a couple of amatuer bouts. Johnny Nelson had very little amatuer experience and lost almost every single one too. Also Vinny Pazienza and Alexander Ustinov apperantly. Both were kickboxers before turning pro boxer, so they did have a lot of boxing experience before their pro box career. As I remember Paz actually kept training exactly the same as he did as a kickboxer, because he believed his legs needed to carry him through the rounds. Don't know if that helped him or bothered him though, but I don't think he was all that smart. There are a few other K1 and MMA fighters who made the step towards pro boxing at the time. There probably are a lot of Japanese and Mexican fighters who have zero experience turning pro.
Scott Quigg has zero amateur exp Currently a paper champ but touted for big things in the U.K Well until Frampton takes him apart
Stuey Halls amatuer career amounts to spending the season in Ibiza every summer He was 10-1 on Amnesias dance floor and undefeated on Bora bora beach after 6am :rofl :bbb
