My sincerest apologies to all for interrupting the regular conversation and debate on the forum. Since stopping fighting myself, I've been reading this forum for must be going on 5 or so years now and I genuinely feel it is one of if not the best collection of boxing minds in the world. My younger brother, whom i now train, recently made his pro debut. Where we live in south east asia it is almost impossible to get fights so we decided to accept this bout in uzbukistan, for no money, paying our own expenses, against a local fighter with a 3-1 record, to get a fight. In addition, our promoter messed up and I couldn't get a visa, so my brother had to fly there alone (13 hours, eesh) and had no one who spoke any english in his corner. Anyway, again, i apologise that this isn't the regular type of thread posted here, but i really would appreciate any feedback on him from you guys, all (most? hah) of whom I greatly respect. I've watched progressively less and less modern boxing over the last few years as I think there are fewer and fewer _old school_ type boxers about and not many really interest me anymore. Hopefully the kid can start flying the flag again We just got the video but my first impression is he isn't active enough with his jab. And too passive on defence for my liking, which I guess i can attribute it partly to nerves. In the three years+ of training i don't think I've ever seen him put up the ear muffs like that. Anyway, here's the video, and thanks anyone who comments! And thanks for the years worth of knowledge! (he's the one in the short shorts) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwRL2gKuA80
Best collection of boxing minds in the world? Can I have some of that ****? On a serious note, I'll check it out later on... Wish your brother luck with his career.
Nice job and good luck to your brother. First impression, you could tell within seconds that your brother was going to outclass that guy. His balance, stance, you could just tell. That said, I thought he gave the guy a little too much respect. He really could have had him out of there in the 1st round had he wanted to be more aggressive. I loved his bodywork, and yes, thought he could have used his jab to greater effect. I'm no expert, but I think your brother can do some good things. Obviously need to see some more vs better competition, but all in due time. Keep us up to date.
If you skim off the layer of trolls and simple-minded tribalistic agenda-pushers, there are some keen ones here.
You do a disservice sir. You failed to mention the concentric layer of trolls who troll the trolls, and the higher-minded tribalistic agenda-pushers, and of course, the hybrid troll-trolling tribalistic agenda pushers.
Good stuff, I thought at first your brother was the taller guy because well... he looked more Asian lol. And I was thinking to myself he doesn't look that great... But yeah, decent boxer, good performance all around the only sort of negative is not enough use of the jab as you saidl
Anybody else see like a weird bulge in the abdomen of one of the fighters? I was distracted by it going "What is that? A broken rib? A tumor?"
I could only find two shows listed on BoxRec as having taken place in Uzbekistan so far this year: http://boxrec.com/show/722531 http://boxrec.com/show/722525 Neither seems to feature a 3-1 local taking on a debuting southeast Asian. What date was the event? I looked up the name in the YouTube title, but I'm guessing that's you? (Jon Thoo of Malaysia? http://boxrec.com/boxer/636109 ...drew with Hashim Abdullah in your debut in 2012?)
Anyway, yeah, it does seem like your brother was a bit nervous in there, and definitely passive at times defensively. Could've jabbed more, absolutely. When he was on the attack he also got a bit stiff at times. Nice left hook, though.
Nice work based on all the circumstances :thumbsup Who worked his corner since you could not make the trip? I gave him a thumbs up on the site. I love the way he just avoids the clinch and does not just offer his arm up and most do in that position Best of luck :happy Jab, jab and more jabs:good
Best of luck mate but as a boxer myself tell your brother if he's serious he needs to relocate. I cannot see taking fights for no money in different countries ending well.
Im certainly no expert, but i'll give my opinion for what it is worth. First off, there is a lot to like for a guy making his debut. I assume that if it is hard to get fights where you live then good quality sparring must also be hard to come by? So your little bro done well and i actually found it an entertaining fight. Good points; He looked a little tense, but i have seen a lot worse in pro debuts. You will obviously know him better and how relaxed and fluid he usually is, but i didn't think it was a major conern. He had a nice, high tight guard when his oponent really let go and actually used some defensive upper body movement at times which is always good to see. Good body work and got some good leverage into his body shots. Managed to land some lead left hooks up top- could do with tightning the angle up and making them a little crisper if i was to be overly critical. Things to improve on; As you and others have said - the jab. To tentative and range findy. Be more authorative. Theres nothing wrong with an odd range finder jab, but if you always throw the jab the same way a better, smarter fighter than your bro's opponent will make him pay. The opponent had a low left hand all fight long. Your bro should have done the basics; jab then overhand right. More lateral movement. He moved back in straight lines to much for my liking. Overall a good solid performance. It can be hard to look good in your debut with nerves. Add in the fact that your brother didn't have you in his corner and the distance he travelled then i am impressed. I'm not sure, maybe it was nerves, but your brothers reluctance to throw his right and some nice left hooks to body and head - is he a converted southpaw? One more thing; tell him to wear longer shorts, haha.
