...and that's really the crux of the matter: Do you accept the authority of the 'unofficial' (and imperfect, to be certain) Boxrec with their common-sense evaluative approach - or the misguided assertion of some obstinate fool at FightFax just because the latter happens to be the appointed "official record keeper of boxing" per the ABC?

From the outset AIBA had organized WSB to be a go-between, a chance for amateurs to retain eligibility for tourneys while still getting a taste of the pro-style experience using that rule set. There are subtle distinctions that make them very much not official pro bouts. They are paid, yes, but it's a fixed salary and not the free-market system used in the actual, capitalistic, often cutthroat world of pro boxing. Also, the bouts are completely insular, overseen by AIBA themselves (their domain being amateur boxing, let's bear in mind) and not sanctioned by any of the individual commissions whose sum body lent FightFax its supposed authority in the first place.

...yet some jackass at FF decided "well they're paid and they're using 8oz gloves and three judges, so...they COUNT! Thus spake me!" and therein sprouted the controversy. Because of the reputation of FF as "official" lots of people have sort of hemmed and hawed and bowed and scraped to abide their consideration of WSB bouts as official sanctioned pro bouts (which they aren't, nor have they ever been, except in the minds of some person or persons at FF who just arbitrarily decided so because they couldn't reconcile the abstraction of something by design looking and quacking like a duck but not actually being a duck)

i had a hard time getting my head around prizefighter...and my main objection was going on the pro record.

but...its not the first time boxers have had multiple small fights on same night like that and they did go on pro records (unlike foremans five fights in one day)....george chuvalo fought 5 on his first night as a pro...bob foster fought twice on one night....and i was reading about harry haft lately, he fought rocky marciano, he was a jew in a nazi pow camp in ww2, and participated in bare knuckle fight to death fights in there...anyway...it lead me to someone who had 6 fights in one night...1 in 2 rounds...all others in 1 round..all ko's...but fook me, i cant remember who it was :)

The Bigger's Better series (akin to Prizefighter, for those who haven't caught them, an eight-man heavyweight knockout elimination tourney but with the main difference of it being on the Euro continent, and featuring a blend of non-boxers originally from other disciplines like kickboxing and MMA along with the same type of hard-used journeymen and dubious prospects you see in PF) used to count as pro bouts, and then somewhere the decision got reversed and now loads of athletes from other combat sports who had officially made their pro boxing debuts now haven't.

...yet oddly, some of the matches from some of the BB tourneys (namely those between established pro boxers, and yet not all of them) are listed on their records. At least on BR, not sure about FF.

Cheers Doug you have made me more confused than ever with this thread !Without going off topic yes fighters back in the day often fought the same opponent twice on the same night if cards ended early etc.Nipper Daly from around my parts did on a couple of occasions (great story if unaware look him up).

Licensing is one thing but you have linked it well to actual records back in the day sketchy at best dates unspecified etc.Number of bouts & win-loss-draw records.

Modern day with all it entails tv,internet access to international reports & yet we still can't work out which fights are legit recorded or not.Your wasted on here mate job with some sanctioning body awaits! :deal :thumbsup.

One is official, one isn't. You tend to go with the official record keeper as opposed to the unofficial version.

That's fairly normal I'd suggest.

I think wsb fights that occurred in the USA are counted as pro fights, and the ones outside of there are not? Illogical i know but that's boxing.

Anyone know who sanctioned the TV programme the contender? Im pretty sure those fights went on to their records as they were all professionals.
