If all you achieve after your pro career concludes is the status of world title challenger & fall short of a title, is that comparable/equivalent/similar to winning Olympic Bronze in boxing?
I don’t think so ...a bronze medal would be more like winning an alphabet title ...and then losing your first title defense
What if we go back to the old era when there was one champ per weight class...could a bronze medal be considered equiv. to a title challenger then? Biggest achievements in boxing: 1) Hall of Fame, 2) Ring belt, 3) major alphabet title, 4) Olympic medal
I think you probably have to work harder to win a bronze medal than you do to get a title shot ...but I could be wrong
Interesting. Last question (thanks for your input): is this how your order of achievements in boxing looks, based on level of importance -- Hall of Fame, The Ring Magazine belt, major alphabet title, Olympic medal?
There are two related but different sports there. And in this era it could easily be argued an Olympic medal in the mainstream tops all the other achievements listed. The Olympics gets network/terrestrial TV coverage, it can make you a household name for a period. There are not many pro boxers who become household names purely on their professional achievements.
