Probably been covered on here before, but I was only around 12 at the time...

True. The right thing to do was fight Lewis and Im sure Eddie Futch wanted Bowe to do that knowing his discipline, but in boxing there arent too many opportunities to make a lot of money, and Newman being a little fish and operating as Bowes manager wasnt aligned to a major promoter, so Im sure he was looking for the best scenarios for Bowe. Cant blame him really.

Bowe was minutes removed from going twelve with Holyfield. His speech pattern tells me he wasn't as fresh as he looked.

It depends on the timeframe for me...96 and later, I'd go with Lewis. Anything before that and I'd favor Bowe.

    rock newman

    almost a wrestling promoter/manager/advisor.
    - bowe punches larry donald. alot to do with newmans style of working
    - newman is the guy who is holding elijah tillary while bowe goes swinging at him.
    - newman was rucking the fanman as well.

all in plain view of cameras. pretty sure the dumping of the belt in the bin idea was to build it up. get lewis on to a equal footing, then when the match happened that bowe was more adept in the pro game. and lewis was still very amatueresque. then lewis gets sparked out, then bowe got beat by evander and should of got dq'd by mathis. and went into mild obscurity.

    No, he's not serious.

I think it was for the usual, everyday reason. He knew there was a very good chance that he'd be beat and he didn't fancy it.

    This is what happened :

Lewis destroyed Ruddock in 2 rounds in London. It sent a shockwave around the world.

Bowe won the title in a tough 12-round war with Holy. He was undisputed champion.

The WBC said "You must fight Lewis next"

    Bowe's manager said "**** that !"

Bowe robbed us of 2 good fights with lewis and tyson. Both should have taken place round about the mid 90's. History shows the decade was ruled by holy and lewis, but bowe had the potential to have a say, he just never realised it.
