I was browsing though a Mayweather vs. Corrales article (I was researching whether Corrales was p4p before he lost.. no answer yet) and I came across probably the most ridiculous statement in boxing ever.

The article below is a portion taken from http://www.boxingtimes.com/previews/2001/010120mayweather_corrales.html

Weakness: At first glance, Mayweather appears to be an outstanding fighter. However, there are several glaring weaknesses. First up is his lack of "D". Mayweather got all he could handle in his last fight, a ninth-round TKO over journeyman Emanuel Burton. Mayweather closed out the night bleeding badly from the nose and mouth, and along the way he also injured his right hand. For a fighter with all of his physical talents, Mayweather simply gets hit far too often. He stays inside too long and admires his own work. There are also some questions in regards to Mayweather's chin. Both his father and his uncle suffered from tender whiskers and the jury is still out on Junior's jaw.

This is all based on one fight.:patsch

It's all based around the Augustus fight where Mayweather was given a lot more trouble than he should of been .

Hence the statement, "You are as good as your last fight".

Yes, it's funny to look back at that and try to comprehend how somebody could come to that conclusion.

Mayweather did look ordinary against journeyman Augustus and he did take enough shots in the fight. If you hadn't seen many fights you'd be forgiven for not thinking he had great defensive skills.

    Hindsight is 20-20

When the article was written all of your posters didnt know who Mayweather was

Everybody who has followed boxing all these years know who Mayweather was. He was already quite famous at the time of the Corrales fight.

Besides, Floyd was already a defensive whiz at 130. Anybody with proper boxing knowledge doesn't need hindsight to realize this. It was pretty damn obvious during that day. The writer just made his statements based on one fight.

Not at that point. Floyd had shown a great defence by the Augustus fight.

I mean...no comment..if you look at the augustus fight and knew who he was..he is not exactly easy to stop....Not by the smaller floyd anyway despite the superior skill advantage.. Floyd hit him 3 times for every 1 punch landed by Emanuel. I mean ....floyd made him miss a lot and just decided to make it a down and dirty fight. I would think floyd haters out of all people would like that kind of fight and the Corley fight b/c floyd didnt even give a **** about defense and decided to go in there and do what the haters always wanted him to do...TAKE RISKS. I knew floyd will be hated on no matter what.
