Alexis Barrière vs. Israel Alegria Nava López, 4 rounds @ heavyweight

 

10-9 Barrière, controlling distance well, staying disciplined, accurately slotting in the right jab and quickly hooking off it, nudging López into the path of his left cross, and working the body where possible. Decent looking HW prospect here. I expect the Mexican will need to boast a heck of a chin to last the whole scheduled four, let alone preserve the cero in his derrotas column

 

10-8 Barrière, delayed reaction knee taken by López after eating a guard-rupturing southpaw 1-2.

Really the Quebecer - fit, strong, and intelligent - has everything you'd want in a heavyweight ...except speed.

@Drew101, reckon you've got a live one here in young Alexis "King of the Jungle" Barrière?

A lot of heavyweights in more or less this same mold from up across the northern border come along with regularity...rarely do they pass muster internationally. See anything here to break your heavily-calloused membrane of cynicism?

 

And when I say lack of speed, that's hand and foot. Not that he is even ponderously slow really...just not explosive in the least, nothing to set him apart from the pack. Average speed, which isn't enough to vault you into the upper reaches unless you have awesome power, or an insane workrate, or slickness to spare ...a trump of some kind. I like Barrière so far but he seems to be the assortment of a bunch of "pretty good" parts. With blah speed. I'm reserving optimism for now.

 

Derek Pomerleau vs. Daniel Beaupré, 4 rounds @ middleweight

 

Holy ****, one punch KO1 (well, two, a southpaw counter 1-2; first time landing cleanly for either man) scored by the debuting Pomerleau just moments after the bell!

 

Beaupré - who claimed victory by KO1 in his own pro debut in December - falls to 1-1, having not gotten a shot in edgewise.

 

Urijah Faber lookalike Beaupré hardly even knew where he was as they yanked his gloves off.

 

Pomerleau's ring moniker is "Slick"? Ought to be "Murder Fists".
