Hey guys, I sparred for the first time at my new gym, and I had trouble seeing out of the traditional cheek-guarded headgear. Granted, I hadn't sparred in a while, had just done hard exercises, and this guy was a ton more experienced, but I couldn't see his shots coming, and he often countered outside of my field of vision, stunning me. I've tried on face-protector headgear before and appreciated the vision a lot (plus my nose kind of sticks out so its a bonus), I was wondering if you guys could share what you thought about it and any experiences with either one, or whether I was just outclassed and should stick to the other type.
outclassed just keep your eyes on his chest and ur peripheral vision and instincts to work out whats coming next your training should kick in and tell you what punch you will be blocking. after he jabs you should be expecting a right hand, but your hands should be up so if he tries a hook instead you can quickly adapt or just roll under it. i don't see hardly any of the actual shots, moreso just a flicker which i react to. the only time i see the full shot is when it hits me and i know its gonna hit me, i.e. overhand right when i drop my left if im tired.
