    Hello folks,

    I started boxing training in the last couple of weeks for a white collar boxing event that raises money for a cancer charity.

    Last night we did our first real hardcore work on the heavybag and it's knackered my hands. To be specific:

    * My hands feel weak and a little sore (I keep missing keys as I'm typing);
    * The main joint on both little fingers is badly grazed;
    * The next finger along is also grazed but less so;
    * The knuckle for my little finger is a bit grazed and raw.

    My hands were wrapped using RDX handwrap gloves (my wraps are getting delivered soon) and I used new 16oz RDX gloves that had good reviews on Amazon.

    Another problem I had was I couldn't make a fist in the glove. If you curl your fingers and rest your thumb on your index finger like you're making an "O" shape or holding an imaginary staff, that's how my hands felt in the glove. I tried pushing them in deeper to get better purchase on the grip bar but it felt like my poor abused little finger was pressing against the glove and stopping me. This made punching very uncomfortable after a while.

    I guess my questions are:

    Why are my hands getting so bashed up?
    What can I do about it?

    Why can't I make a fist?
    What can I do about it?

    My guess is the wrapping is bad/too restrictive and the gloves need breaking in... ?

    Thanks.

    Your hands are weak.
    Its normal.
    It happens when you start boxing.

    Your hands will eventually get stronger, so this problem should be gone in no time and you probably cannot make a fist because of either poor hand wrapping or the gloves are not broken in. All you can really do is make sure you are wrapping your hands properly and if you are just getting make sure you go slow and make sure you know what you are doing.
