I can't breath through my nose at all when boxing. It gets all snotty. It is important to control your breathing, I agree. It effects stamina, your nerves, how dry your throat and mouth get, etc. Altitude does make a difference. Ask anyone from sea level what it's like to fight at high altitude and they will tell you that it's 1000x harder. If you're not used to being at altitude you get winded just going up the stairs even if you are in great shape.
I only run for execise, but the prevailing wisdom there is to breathe evenly through both nose AND mouth. This business about properly humidifying and changing air temps can just as easily be done by sending the air through your windpipe as your sinuses, and you get more oxygen into your body that way anyway. It works for me, and I ain't changing any time soon.
I have a problem with that statement because I use to work on humidifier systems and they have the same system properties as a sinus. A windpipe is not the same. I see your point though about getting more oxygen but do you have any kind of evidence to say that is the best system?
You have to ask yourself how long it takes for air to warm once it enters your system. A second or two? I mean, how much longer could it take for air to warm taking it in through your nose as opposed to your mouth? When training for cardio fitness, isn't it more important to get the air in anyway, which is far more efficiently done through both? You'll become just as efficient if not more so beathing in and out naturally, not paying any attention to a breathing "system" as your body will be telling you how much oxygen it needs. The more you work, the better conditioned you'll be. I'd need to see some evidence that nose-only breathing helps in the least.
Let say its 80 degree's outside. Seems to be impossible to bring all the oxygen upto 96 degree's thats required temperture before entering the blood in 1 to 2 seconds. **** it takes twenty to thirty minutes to change 2 degrees in my house when I have the heater on full blast. According to my book they guy says your nose was made to breathe 100% not fifty percent of the time.
Well boxing isn't all that lady like anyway... Just try it you might like the results.:happy This content is protected This content is protected
