Professional boxers should use 14-16 oz gloves in fights in order to reduce knockouts/damage

You do know your toy boy Wilder would have been 36-2 if he fought with 16 oz gloves, right?

Both Szpilka and Washington were taking him to school before Windmiller stopped them...

this is very true theres more evidence of repetitive punches landed on the head being more damaging than a big one punch knock out look at the mike perez vs Magomed Abdusalamov fight as well no was down both took repetitive shots to the head and now Magomed Abdusalamov has got permanent brain damage so increasing the gloves would only make the matter worse

If both fighters are all focused on defense who is going to supply the offense? Is it just going to be 2 guys standing 6 feet from each other throwing feints all night? I'm sure people are going to flock to these fights in droves:headbash

if boxers wear bigger gloves it would create more slugfest backyard /brawls bro . the punches wouldn't hurt as bad they will be more willing to engage to heavy hitters, smaller gloves would make u play better d cuz if u get hit its lights out . if u have pillows on for gloves n ur not feelin the punches then ur gunna go after him...

i box when im in there with a guy that cant hurt me im going to get him. if i feel sum 1 punches im more cautious i realize i gotta play d and b smart in there n figure him out. bigger gloves make slugfest bro . look at maidana mayweather 1.... floyd had them big gloves he could not keep marcos off of him. 2nd fight he wore not as big gloves and when floyd hit him he kept marcos off of him for example.

Disagreed, I think heavier gloves would give many boxers the incentive to fight a more defensively sound fight.

That's what most are hoping for. Lots of purists out there atm are dissatisfied with boxing.

I have, 16 oz's definitely still packs a punch, it doesn't reduce the damage as drastically as you may think. I think with heavier gloves, fighters are going to want to box instead of slug. That's my point in all this. Not only COULD it reduce damage, it would also transform the sport into a "purist" sport. That's what boxing should be about, it's not about knockouts or delivering highlight reels. This is the gentleman's sport, it's about hitting and not getting hit. It's about who has the most skill in there.

There could be cases where 2 sluggers could absorb more damage, you're right. But we have to do something.

I get that, I used to spar with 16's too and hit the bag with 14-16's. But it isn't THAT big of a difference where they don't hurt, still hurts like heck if u get hit by someone with some power.

That being said, this change definitely has more pros than cons. I acknowledge the point you brought up, but overall I think this will have a much more positive change.

the consequences are much more severe if u get hit with small gloves so ur focus is playing defense. it depends what u excel in anyways.

these pure boxers u talk about when they fight a pressure fighter there gunna b in there face all night ruffin them up if there hittin them with pillows... if canelo had 16oz gloves ggg would of been in his face even more
