Just listened to a radio documentary about Miranda Carter the female civil servant and new-ish boxing promoter. In it she talks about falling victim to one of the fighters on her bill coming over from France for a York Hall show. Turned out that there was another fighter of the same name fighting in Europe on the same night. It was soon apparent that the fighter on her bill was inexperienced and not the person contracted and that this sort of substitution was not unknown in Europe. You can hear the radio programme again on the bbc site - called "its my story". Its the first time I have heard of "professional imposters" - are there any well known instances of this ? Incidentally - long time lurker here. You should all big yourselves up for consistantly being informative and entertaining. Its a great forum. :happy:happy:happy
Check out the career of Bruce "the mouse" Strauss. He wasn't an imposter as such but supposedly on several occasions fought twice on the same bill...once coming back to the ring wearing a false moustache, and another time returning claiming to be the twin brother of the fighter further down the card. The man is legend. This content is protected
ive heard of ringers in pro football. There was a guy at southampton who clamied to be a cousin of someone like George Weah and really good - i think he evan played a few minutes in a 1st team game for them but he was a naff and ended up at gateshead or something stupid it does happen but u wonder how at times
Warren uses them a lot.... rubberhead who fought degale at the weekend once fought nigel benn under ther name reggie sanders
Ali Dia. That was class he had a letter of recommedation from Weah saying yeah this guy is great he's as good as me. Souness like a ***** signs him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBORkZC-CQI
At least he lasted 20 minutes. Just imagine some african bloke comes on the phone "hello my name is george weah you want to sign my cousin, he is excellent, all you have to do is give your bank account number and sortcode"
Can anyone vouch for the career of "Bobby Gunn" before he suddenly appeared on our shores to fight Enzo!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90e-aQwfjeQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG2KuLWaGAQ&feature=related

i actually boxed for pernell Whittaker from time tot ime im not boasting but i did the Chavez fight and the Mcgirt 2 fights among others i also stood in for Mayweather when he beat Corrales
Yeah supposedly there is a british fighter called Audley Harrison, who has actually done this in over 20 fights, watch him, you'd think he'd at least make an effort to make it look real.
John Mensah Kpalongo Carlos Zarate defends his title against the 45-2 togan bantamweight all african contender Kpalonga. a very unusual commodity. zarate, losing horribly against gomez he moved back to 118. looking like zarate was past it. decent enough odds were on Kpalongo to cause a upset. zarate outboxed him then stopped him in round 3 after little resistance from kpalonga after a few years of investigation they found very little evidence that john boxed more than 9 proffesional bouts. coming into the fight with a record of 1-4.
