Honestly I thought that fight was pretty awful and forgettable. I personally think it could have been a draw but it was most likely an off-night kind of performance from Taylor. I commend him for at least wanting to pursue a rematch. I agree that they should have done a rematch with Prograis right away. Not only was it close but it was a great fight that warranted a rematch.
Hmmm I'll have to rewatch at some point, from memory I had it 7-5 Taylor watching live, and a lot of the rounds were close.
Thought Prograis won most of the early rounds against Taylor (first 4). Very good fighter, getting on a bit in age though his team needs to get him a big fight now.
Okay, do you feel better about yourself now? Yes he beat him, it was an excellent fight. Taylor kept him on the inside and took his outside game away until the championship rounds. In my opinion he has been avoiding a rematch since that day because he know's Regis would be stronger the 2nd fight!
His jab was short and sneaky all night! Definitely did not waste any movements from out of range like you said.
Prograis and Taylor put on a hell of a fight, sad it goes unnoticed because the casual boxing fan is more interested in twitter wars with the 135 pounders. These guys at 140 fight!
Yeah. Definitely would. I would still favor Programs over Caterwaul since Taylor was better at giving Programs angles and stuff. Caterwaul is ok at defense but more of a brawler, ambush fighter. Styles.... I think Taylor makes necessary adjustments and wins vs Caterwaul this time
I agree with you i thought it was a very close fight aswell that could of gone either way, probably one of my favourite fights in recent memory a highly skilled slugfest at its finest.
Highly skilled technical slugfest is an accurate depiction, I'd put GGG vs Canelo 2 in that discussion too.
In just 19 fights Taylor has beat Rougarou 24-0 now 2 x world champ JCR 26-0 unified champ Postol 29-1 former world champ Baranchyk 19-0 world champ Ryan Martin 22-0 Miguel Vazquez 39-5 former world champ Ohara Davies 15-0 Khongsong 16-0 Catterall 26-0 (highly controversial) Both Rougarou and Taylor are beasts. A close loss to Taylor for Rougarou and a very bad day at the office unofficial close loss to Catterrall for Taylor doesn't diminish that. Rougarou looked great against the very good Zepeda the other night and Taylor would simply not have beaten all the fighters he has, and don't forget how steep a learning curve he's been on, if he wasn't a top fighter.
