That depends how much and how often you use it, and how much the rest of your lifestyle and nutrition compensates for it.
I drink perhaps once a month, so that leaves me with 30 days without alcohol. Let's say you partially waste another two or three days recovering from the alcoholic abuse, that would mean you spend 10% of your month on or recovering from alcohol, that otherwise could have been used for athletic gain. Not to mention the diminishing effect it may have after that period. In other words, we could guess and estimate but I think only you can tell. Stop for a while and see how you feel in the gym or on the road.
what about the odd blowout on chocolate and fizzy drink say one day a week or from every 2 weeks 2 a month?
If you think that suddenly giving up your evil and wicked ways is going to change anything, you are mistaken.
i drink twice every weekend but only once when ive got a fight coming up yeah i admit it does sort of throw you off all the work youve done its more of a mental effect the next day you just dont want to go an train
If you're talking on a long-term basis, then lessening alcohol intake is always going to be a positive. But like RDJ said, it depends a lot on your lifestyle, eating habits, etc. Plus, genes.... some people just take it better than others. It also depends on what you consider a "night of booze". For instance, if you have 3 or 4 beers on one night a week, that's definitely not that bad. It's way worse if you get ****ing annihilated, even if it's once every three weeks. The body functions best when there is a rhythm, a pattern... the same goes for regular sleep. Unfortunately i can't exactly uphold the above rules, but i'm trying. :!:
not drinking (or not smoking or doing drugs too) is gonna have a positive effect no matter what, but like rdj and chris pontius have pointed out it depends on how much and how often. and how you handle it. personally i dont drink except on rare occaisions and dont smoke or do drugs and i eat reasonably healthy and feel this can only benefit me when it comes to training, but i do also agree its good to have a day off now and then, but its gonna **** you up eventually if you abuse your body on a regular basis. i hope hatton's reading this haha.
