In not calling anyone coward or ducking or whatever the **** till some figures are released for what JT does instead. I can be sick to the stomach that money is the deciding factor, but would anyone do different. But it will be intreseting to see if the same folk agreeing with JT's descision are thinking the same if Calzaghe doesnt fight Dawson. Doubtfull. A fight between Dawson and Calzaghe should be lightyears further away than a Taylor-Froch showdown, but I get the feeling if that fight doesnt happen Calzaghe would get more **** thrown at him than Taylor would. Ten fold.
I'm not sure I'd say ducked per se as that term is thrown around far too freely. However, the fight was set as a final eliminator for a shot at Hopkins around 2004 (I think - might have to check the exact date). Things were going fine until Team Eastman had the cheek to win the purse bid and announced the fight would be at the Ponds Forge in Sheffield. Taylor then got cold feet, preferring to let Eastman have the title shot and instead taking on a very faded William Joppy. The silly thing is Taylor would almost certainly have beaten the rather passive Eastman, but it just seems he doesn't like stepping out of his comfort zone and stretching himself, which is why I don't think he'll ever be remembered with the top echelon.
My missus watches **** soap operas daily which gives me the chance to watch old time fights from all eras. America has pretty much dominated world boxing for over a century and especialy the middle weights. JT has done nothing to enhance your great countries reputation in boxing terms. Froch is undefeated, the champion so take on the challenge. Dont want to list greats from the past but I could name a few regardless of the money would travell for the championship. Hagler Minter springs to mind.
Froch turned down an offer to fight Taylor in the states. Not as much as he might've made in Nottingham, but still probably the biggest payday of his career thus far, complete with North American exposure.
Kessler didn't pull out of the Miranda fight over money, he pulled out because he was offered a shot at the WBA title. And Kessler is nowhere NEAR the draw in the US that Taylor is, so why would even assume that Taylor wouldn't get a significantly larger purse than him for appearing on an American television station? You talk about facts at the end of your post, but all you've done is given an opinion based on ridiculous assumptions.
Money is very often the deciding factor, but there had been many notable exceptions. Do you know that Joe Frazier turned down a 3 mil to face Muhammad Ali and instead fought George Foreman for 800K? Sounds crazy but he outlines why in his autobiography. Apparently he couldn't stand the idea of Ali making 3 mil as well! :nut Personally I think Taylor could beat Froch, and 1.6 mil would be a nice bonus. Although in the past I have been very critical of Taylor, now it would appear that I have more faith in him than his manager. :yep
To be honest Im always saying Calzaghe can get more money fighting Froch than fighting so and so, but im not entirely convinced he'd wanna give Carl the payday either. No love lost
True, a lot of the other guys in the division aren't covering themselves in glory either, but at least a number of them have titles or are interested in a shot. If his whole purpose of being in the sport is to make as much money as possible fighting solely in his homeland against a very average string of fighters, whilst not being prepared to take big fights on anything but 100% his terms, I for one can't really get excited about Taylor.
