I thought Wilder made up the importance of the WBC?

How many ring magazine top ten defenders did Wilder defend his title against? That would be zero.
Vitali fought several men in the top ten with his title on the line.

Historically speaking, the WBC belt used to mean something. These days, it matters far less because the man who owns it fights non top ten people.

What matters more if Ring Magazine Champion ( Which Vitali was ) and being #1 or #2 by Ring Magazine, or fight news, which Wilder never was, but Vitali was for years. VK is also in the hall of fame, a pinnacle Wilder will never achieve.

I'm all right with an athlete bragging, but he has to back it up. Wilder says he'd KO Tyson and easily pass 50-0.
Let's see him beat one top ten ring magazine; then he'll start the road to respect. Ortiz will be a few weeks shy of 39, but if he's in shape and Wilder wins cleanly, okay that's a start.

 I can't think that stupid. A magazine belt has more worth than a real belt does it? It seems to me when discussing which belt is the most prestigious Ring doesn't even get to run that race because it's not a real belt is it? Gonna tell me about the worth of lineal next? How about Charlie Z's belt? Oh but the one started by a racist journalist and presently owned by a cokehead promoter....that's the one with real substance is it?

Either way, that story has dick all to do with Ring it's a story about how Vitali wanted to be WBC champion because Tyson was WBC champion. I'm sure little kiddies who watch Mike Tyson box still want to grow up and be like him despite Wilder....probably because the idea that Wilder can negate 98 years of championship history alone is damn near ******ed no matter how much you dislike him.

It has **** all to do with anything you've said, and can no more be negated by one bad champion than Star Wars was it's films.

becos vitalis best win was a retired 38 year old who never was good enough for a title shot when prime.

He beat a Ring #2 rated HW same as Vitali. #2Stiverne / #2Peter.. Id take Stiverne in that fight.

The top 10 now is a lot better than the horrendous top 10 during Vitali's title run.

In Vitali's WBC era a bum like Arroela is ranked top 10 for FIVE frickin years in a row. We all saw what Wilder did to Arroela with just one arm.

LHW Tommy Adamek , whose health would be at risk if he was at heavy today , was top 10 for 4 years and at one point was the #3 rated HW in the world. :eeek:

Vitali's WBC run against top 10'ers were Solis , Adamek, Johnson and Gomez.. All total bums who would come apart brutally against both Wilder and Joshua.

LOL, no Dino, Stiverne was not #2 ring rated by Ring Magazine. Try a bit further back! Where do you get your information? I have the annual ratings.

Lets compare Ring Magazine annual ratings. 2009 vs. 2017. You tell me who had more talent.

2009
Wladimir Klitschko, Champion - Hall of fame fighter for sure

1. Vitali Klitschko - First ballot hall of fame fighter
2. Alexander Povetkin - Very good in his prime
3. Eddie Chambers - Maybe a little over rated but better than some of the 2017 guys
4. Ruslan Chagaev - A solid alphabet champion, fought better than Wilder did
5. David Haye - UK people love him, but worthy for this spot.
6. Chris Arreola - Perhaps a little over rated
7. Denis Boytsov - An illness took him out of boxing. Sad case
8. Nikolay Valuev - About right
9. Alexander Dimitrenko - Over rated, bad pick
10. Tony Thompson - About right

2017 Heavyweights
Tyson Fury, Champion - Not even in boxing!

Anthony Joshua - A Worthy pick
1. Deontay Wilder - He beat who to get ranked this high?
2. Joseph Parker - A solid pick for the top ten, but #3?
3. Alexander Povetkin - Very old
4. Luis Ortiz - Very old
5. Kubrat Pulev - Still around? Old.
6. Andy Ruiz Jr. - Not worthy in hindsight
7. Dillian Whyte - Not worthy, only rated for rocking Joshua in a loss.
8. Dominic Breazeale - Really?
9. Jarrell Miller - Might stick in the top ten, could eat himself out of it too.

2009 > 2017.

a 41 year old Klitschko nearly had the beating of the best 2017 HW..... Rewind 8 years when both Klitschkos were still around, Haye prime - Povetkin, Chagaev was still good, Chambers still good, Peter was still solid, Thompson, Valuev. Clearly better..... Anyone who says otherwise is a Klitschko hater.

Now 2019-2021 when all of the awesome amateur talent pans out? Could very well better overall than most of the years during the Klitschko era. But most of those guys are still developing as pros and a few years off at least from reaching world title level.

O yeah...that guy that Lewis and Tyson paid off to allow them to duck.
That same guy who when finally got his shot, KTFO a top 5 ATG and top 20/30 p4p ATG.

I keep forgetting how much better Evan Fields and Michael Moorer challenger Bean was.

Yeah Stiverne was rated #2... So what? The WBC probably owed Don King a favor! Clearly not a very good fighter. Lost to journeyman King(questionable stoppage maybe but he was certainly badly hurt) was being outboxed and behind the cards against the corpse of Ray Austin(the prime version was utterly destroyed by Klitschko in less than 2 rounds) High marks of his career are beating a washed up Arreola and he was getting outboxed in the second fight before getting him out of there. Then shut out against Wilder, dropped by featherfisted high level journeyman/fringe contender Rossy and then KO'd in 1 by Wilder.

Clearly a mediocre fighter at best. Yet Dinovelvet thinks that Vitali retired to avoid defending against him, as opposed to wanting to pursue a career in politics.
