I think that the greed of promoters have killed the boxing scene as a whole ... I think that if most promoters weren't so greedy that bigger and better fights couldve been made. Add to that the promoters protection for one fighter ... or the animosity towards managers and agents ... which hurt big fights to ... What happened to making good fights for the integrity of the sport? If Bob Arum wasn't such a ***** and greedy ... Mayweather v Cotto wouldve happened ... or Mayweather v Margarito wouldve happened. Then there's the boxer who wants to turn promoter, without knowing anything about promoting a fight ... the ins and outs ... the financial backing ... the site ... the match making ... thats all a process and fighters don't have time or the means to make good fights happen. Its luck that Oscar has had the success he's had, but thats soon going to come to an end or have a slow period because of his top fighters getting up there in age and none producing quality fights anymore.
For what its worth Dibella Ent. is good ... Goosen/Tutor is bad TopRank is up and down GoldenBoy is flatout terrible Don King is stuck in the Golden Era of Boxing GoldenBoy/TopRank is terrible Syucan is underrated Gary Shaw is underrated (but bias towards HBO)
Promoters and Sanctioning bodies are killing boxing?? That's what the pundits and fans said about Ali/Chuvalo I. That was 1966, and boxing is still here.
I dont buy it...I think that today fighters use promoters like a force field against a lack of confidence in fighting dangeruos fighters...People forget that promoters work for fighters and not the other way around. If you dont like what a promoter is doing or isnt living up to his end of the deal you can leave. Hell it just happened the other day, I can remember the fighter but he sued and got out of his contract because his promoter wasnt getting him the fights that he wanted. The ABC groups are another story, they are more interested in getting thier belts around the waists of fighters that have no problem and is more then willing to pay the fees. The bigger crowds they can draw the better. The WBA and WBO are the worst at that, they seem to both go out of thier ways to get belts to fighters that will make them huge sums of money on fees, and not giving the most or more deserving fighters shots.
IMO the popularity of MMA, and the seeming dissappearnce of local boxing cards plays a role as well as PPV
