PRO BOXING's Return to VANCOUVER ISLAND So there will be pro boxing in the Duncan area in days, but what is the end game and how will it help the sport of boxing on Vancouver Island and other locations in British Columbia. The question that needs to be asked to the main star with Island roots is what have you done for the sport of boxing on Vancouver Island lately?atsch And the promoters with likely no Vancouver Island roots what is the end game?
BOXING on Vancouver Island has been battered in the past due in part to the actions or non-actions of those promoting professional boxing and tough guy fights. Some good and some not so good amateur boxers were reeled in like fish on a hook to engage in "tough guy" fights for the hope of winning a fistful of dollars, and then some would engage in pro boxing fights with no real hope of getting beyond the prelim level, and some were managed or trained by folks that lacked the business and communication skills of elite management or the boxing skills of a quality trainer that could lead them into being contenders and front runners in the race down boxing's twisting and turning highway. For some, it was shaky dreams based on false illusions that faded fast like dust in wind, but the game they played also had an effect on amateur boxing on Vancouver Island. After 1985, the sport died like a falling swan in slow motion drifting slowly to the ground only to crash and burn - not to be revived until the mid-Nighties. But, even that revival didn't last beyond 2001. Fast forward to 2010, and the game begins anew, where will it all end as the days flash by and new dreams and illusions flash through the day and night. :bbb 'Hope springs eternal' but nothing lasts except "Golden Memories" or "Broken Dreams".
I'm currently living in Nanaimo, huge boxing nut. Where are these fights in duncan? when? and Is there anyone worth watching?
