This is utter bollocks. Calzaghe was with Setanta at the time and Froch was with ITV so where does the Sky money come from?

Froch was offered what was at the time a career high purse of around £200,000 which came with a rematch clause. That was a serious attempt to make the fight and since Froch had called for it so much he should have accepted the offer if he really wanted it.

Well you are saying that Calzaghe was "active" for two years after he fought Kessler. He had two fights the year after and then retired in 2008.

Froch was offered the fight in 2006 instead of Bika, he didn't want the fight. Froch and Hennessy used the excuse that they were turning it down because there was a rematch clause they had no problem with the money.

It is customary for a champion to include a rematch clause against a challenger in optional defences, simple as that.

The fact is ****** and Calzaghe wanted to make the fight and Froch just made a lot of noise.

What on Earth are you blabbing on about mate.

You're talking utter **** and making it up on the spot.

Calzaghe did not box on Sky once during the later years on his career, he was with ITV and then went with Setanta for his last 3 fights.

Froch was with ITV until 2010 and Primetime from 2010-2011, Calzaghe was long retired by then.

There was no 5 million doller offer by Sky and had the offer come from Sky it would have been in £sterling.

fair enough, not a big ask for a guy who spent 20 years at smw.

kind of conjecture. he might have been timid cos Calzage hadnt noticed he had his willy out or anything.

and Hennessy and Froch's, they all admitted an offer was made but Froch didn't agree with the terms even though they were good. Basically froch priced himself out.

Not fair at all. Calzaghe moved up because he could not make the weight, was in his late 30's and was the big money draw in this fight. If Froch wanted it he would have been willing to move up.

The guy didn't want Calzaghe simple as that.

It was the period he'd just fought Sakio and was set to then fight Manfredo for pennies.
They made a bull**** offer, without a value on it. They then got a guaranteed counter offer, the highest of his career at the point, They shut their mouths.
He fought dog **** for pennies, and turned down a massive mutli-million pay day for a fight you believe was a level below , The fact is he was fighting light middleweights like ashira, manfredo - and a middleweight in bika whom had 1 fight , a nc cut job at 168. So he was happy to fight them but the reason for not fighting his own countryman, an unbeaten puncher at his own weight and a fight of significant interest to the masses... was that "oh he was a different era"

$5m dollars you see when i see people write that sort of thing, when they know they never even paid for the stadium hire, and the fighter took them to court - its just to add weight to their excuse why it never happened.
"It's all about the money man" - so he gets career high offer

"Nobody knows who he is, its about legacy man" - so he knocks out Taylor on American primetime
    "Im retired man"

He ducked Froch, like he ducked everyone else. He wanted nothing to do with Pavlik after Lockett got pulverised with Enzo in his corner. He even ran off from his promoter, who had the signed contract to go on HBO.

Instead he fought a "shot fighter" as he described in his own book, a whole 2 or 3 years previously, in Roy Jones.
    These are facts

I didn't realise Joe Calzaghe cherrypicked so many fighters from lower weight classes, let alone them not being any good. thanks ash.

yeah the more I learn about the dude the more I dislike him. Since I opened my eyes I rate Hitman above him marginally.

    I don't think so
froch wasn't a big enough player until the taylor fight, then froch came into his own during the super six, which was put together to find calzaghe's successor
