There are two reasons Machen didn't show any discomfort:
1st- he didn't want Liston knwoing his dirty strategy worked

2nd- old timers weren't douchebags with no heart unlike your hero who claimed shoulder injury but also never showed any discomfort too.

Again not true, shoulders can be treated with drugs ot therapy but why would he need to use that in the middle of the fight, and no substance from outside would help shoulder pain.

It was a physical damage that was did by getting punched in the eyes so much, that hurts a lot more than having a some substance in the eyes.

Machen was not pepper sprayed so he would scream and act like he'a losing his eyes.
