Golf is not the number 4 sport in the UK

    1. Football
    2. Cricket
    3. Rugby Union / League (League is very popular up north, just gets less coverage on the pro-southern media)
    4. Tennis
    5. Boxing
    6. F1
    7. Cycling
    8. Snooker
    9. Athletics
    10. Golf

See the three words in bold for an accurate description of most UK fighters.

Yes, One fought at home where he could use illegal tactics, the other fought away in the home town fighters back garden, having had disrupted training due to the dust cloud.
There is obviously a big difference to fighting at home where holding and hitting and illegal headbutts can be used compared to fighting away

Yes, because the pics shown above are the sole representatives of the two countries.

Moreover, you Limeys aren't exactly slim, either.

There is no harm in being proud of your home country's Boxers and their achievements, but let's face it, this thread was always gonna decline into tit-for-tat nonsense.

I do think the Brits have faired pretty well and are arguably on the up whereas their US counterparts seem to be going backwards, I think this is more a concern for Boxing in general than a reason to have a pop at the Americans.

As a Brit do I want to see US Boxing deteriorate or do I wish for progress, overhaul and the production of future Tyson's, Hagler's and Sugar Ray Leonard's ?

Yes I want to see Boxing continue to grow and succeed in Britain and Europe, which I think is inevitable, Germany and Britain in particular have very solid foundations in place and are beginning to compete with the U.S even in a PPV sense, but I think US Boxing will be badly affected as the money available in Europe is competitive enough to take more fights and fighters away from them.

I really hope the US can stop this rot on their shores and put Boxing back on the sporting map over there but it doesn't look good.

Forcing Mayweather to fight Pacquiao would be a good start at giving US Boxing the shot-in-the-arm it badly needs just now.

They say a fish rots from the head down so I hope for the sake of Boxing that America gets its act together, because if the Sport fails there it will have a negative effect the world over ......

Maybe the OP would have been better served making a thread about how British Boxing can improve or how US Boxing can bridge the gap on it's competitors rather than the "we're better than you" approach ?

Finally I'd like to have a dig at the poster who claims Boxing is way ahead of Golf in popualrity in the UK and probably the Number 4 Sport here ................ it is most definitely NOT the 4th most popular Sport in the U.K and isn't even top 10, Golf is in fact hugely more popular also.

This is post is a very sane approach to using this forum, I'm not particularly patriotic my self. This was more of an attempt to highlight the fallacy, of the American dominance of the past still being in existance, which many American posters seem to still hold on to.

A lot of the time when they're aren't any big name American fighters in a division it means its a bad time for that weight class, not saying its not sometimes the case.

Boxing in America still seems to be doing OK, but the levels of talented and successful American fighters to come off of the conveyor belt are low.

A post like this gets people emotional, and thus gets people actively posting. The best posts aren't always the most pragmatic.
