Definitely agree that Dirrell fought great fight, but he got a little reckless maybe overconfident towards the end, and that also why he was KD'ed IMO. Yeah it was a punch that put him on the canvas and it's very strange the ref couldn't see that. Regarding the DQ I really don't think there is any reason to feel bad for AA, because as the replay shows Dirrell is clearly down when AA throws punch. He have to respect the rules even if he don't care about the health of his opponent. Disgraceful and idiotic by AA who could have caught Dirrell like that on his feet in the last 2 rds but blew it.
It's great to finally hear some applause for what was otherwise a cracking performance! I had some friends over at my house for drinks while I was watching the fight...none of them are boxing fans and they looked at me like I was a crazy person, yelling drunken muddled praises at Dirrell and trying to explain what a big deal it all was. They just didn't get it:bart.
I picked Dirrell to win because I expected that he would improve considerably over his awful performance against Froch, and he did! On the other hand, it seems I had underestimated Abraham slightly, before the fight. I knew he was very good, but not quite as good as that! I think that had the fight gone twelve, Abraham would have eventually got to Dirrell and stopped him - before the fight, I had Dirrell as the ever so slight favourite. My view of Dirrell as B+ fighter has been confirmed. But now, I think Abraham has it in him to be better than B+.
He was a joy to watch. Very fluid and his combinations were excellent. He has some real zip in his shots. It's such a shame there was a strange ending to the fight.
I thought he boxed beautifully for the first 7 rounds, then he start to gas a bit, or the version that fought froch started to show up about round 8 on....round 10 he was knocked down, and was visibly hurt...
Yeah. I though the ending will be damn exciting as Arthur was coming stronger, but then slip and bang, and it's over.
That is a very good question, but you know, it's much better to have 4 points than two and waiting for the score system to decide who goes home. And of course I'd love to see Dirrell beatin Ward's ass!
I was very impressed with Dirrell's performance last night! It looked like his reach and speed was a problem for AA all night! Great Fight and Good Thread.
Thanks! Head to head is interesting because it's very possible that 3 guys with equal points will compete for a SF spot and only two of them fought each other, so what would be the decider for the 3rd guy?
Froch loses to Abraham and Kessler. Kessler beats Froch on points and loses to Green. Green loses to Ward and beats Kessler on points. Dirrell loses to Ward. Froch, Kessler, Dirrell and Green all have two points. Froch has a tiebreak over Dirrell. Kessler has a tie break over Froch. Green has a tie break over Kessler. You tell me who qualifies?!
Dirrell showed the other night that he is not just another American hype job. The speed, power and chin, not to mention his ring awareness at times was brilliant. Future P4P for sure. Andre Dirrell got a knew fan in me the other night.
