Briggs was abit of a bell-end, for coming in at 262pounds..!!!

    What happened to the 240..????

Briggs lost this fight in the training Camp.

His best functional weight is at 240.

Briggs proved he had a chin and heart by doing so. Johnson proved nothing by going the distance with Vitali.

I disagree, most at ESB gave him no credit and viewed him as a coward for his performance. Briggs clearly took more punishment, and in doing so got peoples respect.

No, taking punch after punch without giving up or knocked out proves one has heart and the inner strength to take what the oppenent is dishing out.

Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit, whats your point?

Wlad's one hell of a boxer, but not much of a fighter. He tends to melt under pressure, and fall apart when the going gets tough.

Briggs cornerman did him a disservice.

Fightes like Briggs have big ego's....so much so that they'd prefer to get hurt badly than to outright tell the ref, "I cant go further, I'm getting hurt in there."

Its the job of your corner to tell you and the ref, "thats it, I'm not going to let my fighter take anymore punishment."

Where was the ref in all of this as well?
Not once did he go over to Briggs corner and tell him, "Shannon, you're getting hit way too much. I'm going to stop it if you dont make a stand in this round."

WTF???:fire The health of the fighter is'nt being looked after by either the ref or the corners.:fire

Briggs had absolutely no chance of winning that fight past the early rounds, and it was evident.
At one point in one of those late rounds the fight should have been stopped.

.....but no. Briggs corner soon sacrificed Briggs long term health so that they can say they went the distance.:-(

One side of me agrees, while the fighter in me says Briggs still had a punchers chance,as slim as the chances were.

It was for all the marbles, and i did expect Shannon to quit when the going got tough, but he showed me he was better than that.

Actually, Briggs landed his best shot of the night in the 11th round with a right hand that stopped vitali in his tracks for a few seconds.

Ability to defend doesnt get the same "respect" as getting hit huh??

I think that when some folks detect a fighters willingness to try to engage in the battle is still present, or at least they havent completely closed the shop up, and in spite of getting a beating along the way....well that desrves and earns a certain kind of "respect".
