Props to Briggs, but I felt a little sorry for him

How did Johnson prove he had chin by not getting hit? Where is your logic here? He proved he has defense, that's about it.

He did NOT prove he has heart, because he came to survive, not to win. Throwing 7 jabs a round is coming to survive, not fight. Briggs gets credit because he came to fight, he couldn't win the fight, but he kept fighting, rather than just survive. That is heart. No one has anything against a fighter using defense and not getting hit, BUT boxing is HITTING and not getting hit, and Johnson did none of the first part.

Just a little sorry? After the 6th, I was hoping that Vitali finishes the job with a mercy KO, but Briggs got the asthma beaten out of him, felt equally sorry for the guy and angered that the corner never cared about his health. It was brutal punishment. Shannon sold a great fight and never stopped trying, got great respect for him.

 

While it's true he wasn't in the best shape and has clearly added too much muscle mass to his frame, it wouldn't have made any difference.

Briggs has been around for a long time and is clearly well past his prime or even shot. This wasn't the Briggs from the 90's who was at least fast and powerful this was an old fighter at the end of a long career.

I was surprised that Briggs was able to last the distance he has a lot of pride even in defeat. I never had any doubt that Vitali would dominate Briggs in a in a one sided affair.

 

Should've been stopped. His pride would've gotten over it; not worth the risk.
