    Going into the 12th...

Great effort. Not as lopsided as Lederman has it, but clearly a Marquez win.

Yeah... Marquez deserved it. Was impressed with Diaz... kept his composure well whenever he was hurt. Who does he fight next?

I would have liked to see him let it go but its easier said then done. Marquez is so damn accurate.

I think that may be the last we see of Diaz as a fighter.

Diaz fought to survive. He was content to last the distance, and not get KO'd. I dunno why that deserves credit.

Lots of credit for his bravery. He sought to survive in certain rounds but his strategy chance was working for him in some aspects. Marquez struggles a bit with movement, and the jab was working for him. He just needed a balance of powerpunch output and technical awareness to be successful. He can beat plenty of other boxers fighting with both smarts and aggression. Just not JMM.

    Thats how I saw it.

I think whats happening here is that people tend to tilt to believing what is fed to them by the broadcast team, and the theme tonight was that Diaz was boxing better than they thought he could........when in actuallity he was getting beat in every faze of the game.

The HBO broadcast team would compliment Diaz' jabs, yet Marquez outjabbed him.

LOL, in a couple of occasions the broadcast team was in the midst of complimenting Diaz' footwork, and right then Marquez would land a pinpoint combination.

Marquez imo looked the same in this fight that he did a little over a year ago against the same Diaz.
The only difference in Diaz lasting the distance was that he did'nt fight to win.
Past the first few rounds, Diaz seemed content to finish on his feet and last the distance.
There is never nothing impressive to me when a fighter is'nt in it to win it.

I agree. We can all celebrate Diaz's improved skills, but all those skills did was keep him vertical.

Every fighter, and especially those on center stage, have two obligations:

    1) Prepare appropriately

    2) Try to win

Diaz failed on No. 2 and therefore warrants no acclaim. All fighters deserve a baseline of respect, but he didn't bring it tonight.

Full credit to Marquez, and I hope he gets another big payday or two before calling it quits.

    Diaz is not a boxer.
From his first fight as a pro, he's been a come foward swarming type volume puncher.

Any way you cut it, Marquez is just the better fighter, but imo at least fighting how Diaz fought the first time, there is always a chance something crazy happens like a clash of heads that changes the flow of a fight, or even catching Marquez with a lucky shot.

The strategy by Diaz to use the jab and try to box Marquez from distance with the jab was absolutely ridiculous.

Diaz has always been a swarmer, and all of a sudden he's going to chance that and try to box the best technical and tactical fighter in the game?:patsch

He had tried his swarming style to his best ability in their first fight, and got KTFO in doing so, God forbid the kid tried to study and imploy a different tactic... so it didnt work, oh well, he still gave a good showing and lasted the distance and gave some good fireworks at the end as well. I was impressed somewhat at his improvements in footwork, movement and defence... if he would have opened up a bit more, and let that right hand go after his double jabs instead of having it glued to his face most of the night, he would have done a lot better. But hindsight is 20/20, and their gameplan was not as foolish as it seemed. They didnt want to get into a trading war with Marquez, so they employed a more stick and move tactic... it didnt work, oh well.

I for one am happy for Diaz, and hope he can have one farewell fight in front of his hometown fans and then retire. Hes got nothing to be ashamed of and had one hell of a career all things considered. I think in a lot of aspects he did himself proud tonight. He looked all but done against Malignaggi, and he comes back against one of the best fighters in the game today, shows up in shape and ready to go all 12 and while his tactics didnt work, you could tell he studied up and tried to correct mistakes he had made and his heart was in it, and they both put it on in the 12th.

Props to Diaz, and of course the wonderful wizard Marquez as well.
