No one thought Chavez Jr. would ever be a champion 3-4 years ago but ever since he joined up with Roach, Freddie proved the world wrong and made a champion out of him. Not only that but these critics who say Freddie doesnt teach his fighters any inside game...well once again Roach proved them wrong tonight when his fighter became a champion because of his inside game. Also props to Alex Ariza, everyone thought he was going to be collecting a welfare check when all his fighters were dropping him left and right but they all realized how much of a mistake that was and lets be real here Jr's conditioning is what won him the fight tonight. We can credit that to Mr.Ariza. Props to these 2 elite boxing personnel for accomplishing so much tonight. :happy:happy:happy
Chavez ballooned up to 180 tonight. I'd say Ariza needs to rethink his strategy here. Of course he's gonna be more sluggish with all that weight. Roach had JCC Jr pacing well though. But even Roach I think might be getting a little past prime as a trainer.
Put him in with IBF champ Geale, he won't be able to pace himself he will have to work every second of the fight and probably die of exhaustion by round 8.
Yea, I was one of Jrs critics and still am, but joining Roach was the best thing he could of done. Fight could of gone either way, but slight edge to Jr okay. Im glad for Jr he finally got a belt just like his ol man, I dont expect more from Jr he could get kod or humiliated from this point on it doesnt matter I think the Zbik win is and will be his highlight.
Chavez didn't win his first world title that isn't bs in the first. It was a paper belt that the stupid wbc strip the real champion Martinez.
chavez jr's claim to fame (and selling point) is that he is the son of the great julio cesar chavez. nothing more.
Hmmm - sounding like Ortiz vs Berto where Ortiz rehydrated to 160+. Wasn't there a move to have week before and day before weigh ins? This doesn't sound fair.
