Like the thread title says, i have to give credit where credit is due, beforehand i though Froch would rough Kessler up en route to a TKO victory, and had stated that it would be Froch's "time" i stand corrected though as the fight played out very different. Kessler was really effective with the body assault i think i remember Froch saying after he went back to his corner mid fight "those body shots are a bich" or somthing like that, also the way he put his combinations together was quality he looked a lot more fluid at times. Not to say Froch wasnt good last night, i think it was his timeing that let him down he threw wild punches a lot of the time and they were missing the target and found himself getting countered, if he was a little more composed and didnt take unnecessary shot he may have pulled it off . I have no argument about the result (a couple of questionable scores on the judges cards though) i had Kessler up 1 round and thought it was an extremely close fight as alot of the rounds were hard to score, like Froch said if it was in Nottingham it may have swayed the opposite way but he had a lifeline against Dirrell so mabey the right man did win. All in all a brilliant fight for the fans i was very entertained, im sure the Cobra will bounce back and he has another very tough fight ahead of him in Abraham, as for Kessler its onwards and upwards for him he now has a title again and will have a major confidence boost from this fight.
How big of a roll did the Ward fight play in your opinion of Kessler? I'm asking because Kessler looked like utter **** in the Ward fight. Tons of people thought Kessler might be past his best. At first I thought Kessler would have a field day with Froch. After the Ward fight I said Kessler/Froch was 50/50.
big props to Kessler as some doubted what he had left. that was bad cut he received in the middle rounds, yet stuck with it. 3 time world champion!!
The thing about the Ward fight its was a bit of a foul fest mostly on Wards part, Kessler did look like **** though it may have been an off night given he was on away turf ect. To answer your question though i think it gave Kessler a well needed kick up the arse, he needed this win to carry on in the tourney and his carrer, he did look like the Kessler of old in parts of the Froch fight and i think if he fought the way he did last night against Ward in a re-mach he would have a much better shot, only thing is though Kessler struggles against slick fighters like Ward so i think a re-mach would be a 50/50 fight, most of the fight in the super 6 are going to be very close affairs imo because they are the best at 168 (Bute excluded)
I agree with the sentiment of the thread but you must be sniffing glue if you think Kessler is going to be competitive with Ward in a rematch. Froch is a like a zombie compared to Ward. Ward would completely dominate a rematch. Ward flat out beat up Kessler, no controversy needed.
Kesslers confidence will be sky high now, If the fight was in Denmark i dont think it would be a toatal domination as you suggest, i do agree however, that Ward is far more fluent and would favour him in the re-mach. Its amazing how much the crowds influence had an effect on Kessler, he seemed to be all but out in the last round then rallied when the crowd started going off their heads.
I do think that Froch could have won that fight, he should have fought differantly. But yes, props to Kessler, he did what he needed to to salvage his career
Disagree, the Kessler that fought last night was a different person to the the Kessler that fought Ward.
I think it was the greatest night of Kessler's career. Can you imagine the feeling of winning a title fight in front of so many of your countryman, while rebounding from the worst defeat of your career? He proved a lot to himself and his fans and finally won a close tough fight against another titlist.
Nah he wasn't, Ward is just a lot better and has the right style to impose himself on Kessler. He has handspeed, he presents angles, he can counter or come forward. Froch is an upright target with little speed, he has his attributes but they are not attributes to bother Kessler because Kessler matches or betters them. I believe Kessler is still some way from the fighter he was 3 or 4 years ago. Check the video and see.
Kessler gave it his all, but that wasn't quite a B+ level performance. The Kessler from back in the day was putting in B+ level performances and at times even bettering B+.
I'm not sure his performance will get that much higher. It's not like he's inconsistent at the moment, he's doing what he always does. He's just not as fast anymore, his hands are slower and he doesn't move as well. He also seems to lack accuracy, he was such a sharp puncher but that isn't the case now. Probably because he's lost that bit of speed and the timing has been thrown off.
