Much respect to Antonio Margarito. I thought I wasn't going to be able to watch this fight because I was going to A.C for a friend's birthday. Luckily, the club we went to had the fight on. I only got to see from round 9 on, but from what little I saw, Margarito put a beating on Cotto. Ususally, you can make excuses for why I fighter lost. It doesn't seem like that was the case in this fight. From what I read, Cotto was on top of his game. He was moving and countering Margo just as everyone thought. However, Margo was eating Miguel's punches like they were candy. In the rounds I saw, Cotto was breaking down mentally. He was running around and looked desparate out there. Finally in the 11th, he decided he couldn't take it anymore. He took two knees and basically quit. What happened to Cotto is usually what happens to his opponents. This was Cotto's first chance to beat a champion in the ring(although, technically Margo gave up his title before the fight), and unfortunately for him, he came up short. I've always respected Margarito as a fighter, but he really impressed me last night. People are definately going to have to start giving him more credit than they have been. Good luck to Margo trying to find someone to fight him now. It won't be easy. Cotto shouldn't take a rematch for a little while. Paul Williams is probably the only guy that truley wants to fight Margo.
Great post. Agree on all accounts. You should catch the replay because Cotto had his moments. Margo was just able to walk through it though it was impressive to say the least.
Yeah, I can't wait to see the replay. The rounds I saw, Margo was a man on a mission. I still think Cotto is a hell of a fighter, but it's difficult to stand up to that type of beating.
I'm happy for Margarito, but he'll still have difficulty securing big fights outside of Arum's stable. The bad thing about this is now that DLH and Pacquiao fight each other. DLH is one of my all-time favorites and I like Pac too, but I'd rather see Oscar close out his career against someone else with a win, and not decapitate Pac!
I had Cotto up 5 rounds to 1 by the end of th sixth, wait til you see the 7th, thats when the drama starts...
Great post, Big Reg. Cotto fought as well as he could have fought, given the circumstances. And I agree, only Paul Williams wants to fight Margo. That rematch should be one heck of a fight when it goes down.
