For putting on some of the best fight cards I've ever seen this year and last night was no exception. 117 was pure balls to the wall entertainment. Bizarro submission wins for Guida and Hughes, great fights in JDS/Nelson and Struve/Morecraft, and one of the most nail-bitingly exciting championship fights in recent memory in Silva/Sonnen. Seriously that mainevent was like this generation's Frank/Tito. It was almost unreal. Anyway, props to Zuffa once again. I have a feeling no one is getting 'event of the year' outside of UFC and WEC for quite some time.
Your average boxing match/card is so **** now adays. It's not only about good match ups but their pay structure doesn't ensure good fights always. When elite boxers trade, it is exhilirating but generally MMA is producing good fights time and time again. The fighters are simply very hungry.
exactly, it's hard to look forward to boxing cards when there is only 1 good fight on them usually. Not to mention all the top guys who avoid each other and the real fights don't get made. It's not easy in the UFC to "duck" another guy.
to me that card was not that exciting silva should have been better & we just watched some boring sonnen g&p jds/neslon .... meh nelson was tough but jds showed hes limited fitch/alves sooooo boring struve/morecraft who the **** cares but nice come from behind hughes/almeida i cant believe almeida lost this way but was it exciting ?? noway i didnt watch guida **** that so yeah great card the best ever...... (sarcasm)
Man your a hater. You wouldn't know a good ppv if it came up and slapped the crackpipe out of your moms mouth.
for me the best fight was Dos Santos v Nelson They were just swinging for the fences and was it great to watch. Hope those guys get a bonus.
So were you impressed with Alexander-Kot fight? That's one reason why boxing can leave you shaking your head.
Although I expected the Dos Santos 1st Round KO, his stock went up even more in my eyes due to the coolness of his approach to the fight. Once he knew that Big Roy could really take a punch he didn't panic or go uppercut crazy. Instead he settled back into a rhythm and just controlled the fight until the end, without blowing his stamina to ****. Bring on the Brock-Velasquez winner.
Im respectful of any fighter getting into the ring doing their job - but silva/sonnen was not anywhere close to tito/shamrock in any respect - as for the quality of the fights I have been far more impressed with other cards - I dont know why you rate this card so higly? Personally although i enjoy watching JDS fight - that fight appeared a little lackluster.
Not better in any aspect? How about both fighters being far more talented? How about it not going exactly as predicted? Pearls before ****ing swine.
