Well he sports the Cotto earmuff type defense so shots up the middle will always get through similar to how Pacquiao hold's his hands. The difference is Pac is not afraid to retaliate whereas Khan was really weary of dropping his hands to exchange when up against the ropes.

Khan's a tall lanky fighter and that type of physique is not usually conducive to good close range in-fighting. Margarito and Williams are probably exceptions to the rule but that's because they throw so many shots up close without regard for incoming fire --- something that Khan can't get away with.

We also have to remember that Khan is not on Mayweather or Pac's level. He has great handspeed and decent power but he does not possess RJJ type superhuman reflexes to avoid incoming fire and counter at the same time.

I think there was a little too much pressure on Khan, and I think it wasn't even so much what others had put on him, but what Amir himself had put on his shoulders. I think he tried a little too hard and it showed, his boxing didn't flow so well. He looked ragged in there at times. Can be expected, first time in Vegas, big power puncher infront of him, the prospect of fighting mayweather at some point. He's thinking too much about all of this, and his mind wasn't totally in the zone last night.

He needs to settle down a bit, stop giving too many interviews, knuckle down and put in some hard work. Yes his inside game is virtually non existant. Granted he doesn't needed when he himself is in full flow boxing and moving from the outside, but he will sometimes get taken into deep water against tough come forward fighters and he needs to learn to work effectively inside.

Did the occasion get to him a little bit? I think so, but he will mature a little more and calm down. Learn to pick shots better. We've learnt from the Malignaggi fight he has a great jab and it's a potent weapon. We saw in the Maidana fight he's got a lethal body shot, he could learn to use that more in fights, end combinations with a body shot. We've also learnt he's got big heart and courage and a decent chin.

So we can all see he's got the goods to work on and improve and he we are seeing it with every fight. He's arrived at elite level and is starting to mix it with the top boys at 140. Can't fault him too much as he's got time and is at a great gym, he can only get better.
