Prospect Boxing:Stacked Wishaw Feb 24th Card Nears Completion

After a busy 2011 ,Paul Grahams Prospect Boxing shows no sign of slowing down as they announce there first show of 2012 ,which will take place on Friday Febuary 24th at Wishaw Sports Centre, with doors opening at 6.30.

In a co-promotion with Chris Gilmour, the stacked card will feature 7 bouts,with Coatbridges Eddie Doyle headlining with a challenge for the vacant British Masters Light Welterweight and also features Irish undefeated Light Middleweight Alan Donnellan, opponents for both fighters will be announced soon.

Closer to home, the card will see the Motherwell's Steven Banks take on the experienced Duncan Cottier, and undefeated flyweight Iain Butcher looks to build on his December victory over Darren Pryce,by taking on Andy Roberts and steps it up a level by competing in his first 6 x 3 contest.

After being out for the latter part of the year, Paul Allison looks to extend his impressive 5-0 by taking on the Essex's experienced journeyman Danny Brown, meanwhile Castlemilk's Gary McCallum looks to go 2-0 by taking on experienced Wishaw local Kenny Davidson,both contest are 6 x 2.And completing the line up, Barry Craig takes on Giuseppe Daprato in a lightweight contest.

Prospect Boxing aul Graham looking forward to another Wishaw show

Having been a professional boxing referee, Paul Graham decided to turn his hand to boxing promoting and is now looking forward to promoting his 4th show from 7 at Wishaw Sports Centre since he started promoting 18 months ago.

And since the change in career he ,has gone on to make the North Lanarkshire sports facility a home venue for his boxing cards and his roster of fighters.

Graham explains A lot of the fighters I have are based in local area,so it makes sense for the fighters to have there fights here. We also enjoy a good relationship with the management of the hall

The last few cards I have run here have been good cards and well received by the crowd and that shows were definitely doing the right thing! Also I have been lucky to have had the support of local business,with backing from C&C MOT and Service Centre and Air Conditioning Scotland, BBE and the local Macs bar sponsoring our next show at the Wishaw Sports Hall on Feb 24th

He adds As a venue, its a good size with a capacity of 600 hundred,which gives the crowd a good view of the action and also builds a good atmosphere on the night. We are not a promoter with a TV contract so we have to rely on a crowd to build the show and as were on our 8th professional show we must be doing something right he beams.

But always looking to build on his previous shows ,Graham explains his next show will be licensed While the feedback has been positive on the shows, there was a clear demand for a bar to be added to the venue. So on the Feb 24th we will have a fully licensed bar in the lesser hall. This will enable the fans to enjoy a drink and celebrate their fighters win!

The February 24th Card features a stacked card headlined by Eddie Doyle fighting for the vacant British Masters Light Welterweight Title. Also in action are Steven Banks,Barry Craig,Kenny Davidson and Giuseppe Daprato.
Completing the line up are undefeated trio Iain Butcher,Paul Allison and Gary McCallum.

well not too bad, just under 4 weeks to go and its fair to say about 50% are sold so far,and a few of the figthers have requested more :good

A wee preview

Local Boxers Aim To Impress

On Friday 24th the cream of Scotlands next generation of fighters aim to to impress at a sell out crowd at the Wishaw Sports Centre,which is being put on by two of Scotlands top promoters Chris Gilmour and Prospect Boxing,

Headlining the strong card is Glenboig's Eddie Doyle,who will be in pursuit of his first professional title as he takes on Halesowens Keith Sheen for the vacant British Masters Light Welterweight belt .

Eddie Doyle comes into the fight knowing that a win will propel him towards the top of the British rankings, however Ex-Royal Marine Sheen will have other ideas as aims to cause an upset and build on his excellent amateur career as he takes on Doyle over 10 x 3 minute rounds.

Also showcasing there talent is Jerviston's Iain Butcher (2-0),who will be looking to build on his previous victory over Darren Pryce at the Cleland Miners club in December. Butcher will take on the Hungarian dangerman Richard Voros over 6x3 minute rounds and will be looking to impress with his first knockout victory.

Also from Jerviston but fighting in the Light Middleweight, Steven Banks (3-0) returns to the Wishaw Sports Centre to take on the experienced Duncan Cottier over 6 x 2 minuets rounds. Undefeated since turning professional, Banks last outing at the Wishaw Sports Centre saw him score a comprehensive 60-54 points victory over Bellshills Daniel Micallef.

Also in action ,Airdrie s Barry Craig will look to extend his record to 2-0,as he takes on Newton Stewart's Giuseppe Daprato (1-3) in a 6 x 2 minutes round bout at lightweight. Fighting since the first time since the birth of his son Josh, Daparto will look to return to winning ways and will be looking to use his experience over the 1 fight novice to secure victory.

After being out for more than 6 months,Stranraer's Paul Allison (5-0) returns and is looking to get back into Scottish title contention. In the opposite corner is Essex's Danny Brown who comes into the bout with a. Allison,who also works as a tattoo artist, is no stranger to the Wishaw Sports Centre as he made his debut there and will be making his 3rd appearance at the North Lanarkshire venue.

Wishaw's Kenny Davidson (3-3) will look to bounce back from recent defeats as he takes on Castlemilks Gary McCallum over 6 x 2 minutes rounds in the Middleweight division. After making a successful debut at the St Andrews Sporting club in October last year,McCallum will be looking to continue his in ring education and will be looking to extend his record to 2-0 with a win over Davidson.

Promoter Paul Graham said This is the first time I have worked with Chris Gilmour on a pro show and we are both looking forward to showcasing our fighters. I have enjoyed working with Chris,and I hope we can do it again

He adds This also gives us a chance to show the fans the best of the next generation of Scottish fighters, and we believe we have a good card in which some of the fighters will go on to bigger things in the future. The card also has a few all Scottish fights, when i am promoting a card we like to do these types of fights as local rivalries always add a extra bit of spice to the fight !

Paul Allison talks about his return to the ring

Tickets are selling well, and the venue has agreed to increase the capacity by an extra 50 ! Wich is encouraging!

Paul Allison Steps back into the ring

Dusting off the Mouthgard and wrapping his hands after nearly 9 months out, Stranraer's Paul Allison (5-0) makes his long awaited return to the square ring on February 24th at Wishaw Sports Centre when he takes on Danny Brown over 6 x 2 rounds.

Injury has kept the Orthodox Allison, on the sidelines since a comprehensive 59-55 points win over Louis Byrne in May last year and he cant wait to get back into it I cant wait to get back into the ring! he proclaimed For one reason or another its been too long since I beat Byrne. I have been itching to get back in the ring and take my record up to 6 wins

Previously the Stranraer fighter has made good use of the ferry link to Belfast,and has went over to the famous Breen gym for sparring I am hoping to get over to Breens again. While I have been there in the past I have sparred the likes of European title contender Andy Murray amongst others. This was beneficial to myself and brought me on a bit as a fighter

While the Breen Gym has provided a good opportunity for Allison in the past, in the run up to the Brown fight, Allison has been training closer to home in Stranraer The training is going well and my weight is looking spot on, because its my first time in the ring after a while im working on a bit of everything,with strong focus on roadwork

Not wanting another year out Allison spells out his plans I feel I have a lot of time to make up ,and ideally at the end of the year I would love to be 10-0 or there about it. This would put me in position to fight for a Scottish title or Masters title,but before I talk title's though ive got to do the business against Danny Brown on Feb 24th

Former Prizefighter star Gary MacArthur answers late call to make it a all Scottish title affair

Friday night's main event now sees Glenboig Eddie Doyle challenge Clydebank's Gary McArthur (16-4) for the vacant British Masters Light Welterweight title at the Wishaw Sports Centre on Friday 24th February .

The Tommy Gilmour managed fighter replaces Halesowen's Eddie sheen who has had to pull out due to injury,and will be looking to return to winning ways after losing to Stuart Green last month,when challenging for the Scottish title at light welterweight.

Despite the late change,promoter Paul Graham is happy with the change of opponent While no promoter really enjoys the inconvenience of having to find another opponent with less than a week to go,this time it has actually worked out for the best

When we found out Eddie (sheen) had pulled out we made a few calls and didnt really have much success however Gary McArthur answered our calls and we now have a main event again! And I think we have actually gained a better main event for the fans

Now with a Fridays opponent secured, Graham confirms there is an added incentive for the winner Speaking to Tommy Gilmour he has confirmed that the winner will get a shot at Scottish belt,which is currently held by Stuart Green. I have spoken to McArthur and he has vowed to do whatever it takes to win as he wasnt happy with his performance when he faced Green last month, and its good to also have an all Scottish fight for my main event

I think its fair to say that McArthur will be (Eddie) Doyles hardest opponent to date. Gary (McArthur) has boxed twice in Prizefighter, has challenged for the Scottish title and recently went 4 rounds with Curtis Woodhouse. While he may not have always been successful, it certainly fair to say he has boxed at a higher level than his opponent and this also gives Doyle a good step up in his career

cheers guys ,show is selling quite well im told,down to last 20 or so,which will be available on the door ! Cant wait for it either,got a good response form local press which is always good for the fighters.

this with alex arthurs shows and Gilmours/Morrisons shows are good for Pro boxing up here as we are trying to get reguler shows ,which is something that has been lacking for a while .
