Mitch Prince discusses career to date and looks forward to June 1st fight

After a successful points victory over Lee Quinn in March, Cumbernaulds Mitch Prince is looking to use his June 1st fight as a springboard to a rematch with Stuart Green were he hopes he can avenge his only professional loss.

Fighting on June 1st at Rivals Gym,Newmains,Prince explains he hasnt taken anytime off training since his last fight in March Since my fight with Lee Quinn, I did 2 weeks of intense training then continued with some light training .I believe that you're only as good as your last performance

While he has boxes under his given name, Prince had changed his boxing name for a while to the exotic sounding 'Prince of Passion' .While a boxer may change weights throughout there career, to change name is not as common, but the orthodox fighter goes on to explain the background to it and why he changed it back I was born Mitch Prince in Johannesburg and I was raised over there until I was 13. I then moved over to Scotland and took up boxing at my local club

On a amateur boxing trip for Scotland I was referred to as Prince Of Passion by a fellow boxer called Jim Cusick, as a laugh. It was during my break away from boxing that I found out how easy it was to change my name so proceeded to do it. I have since changed it back to Mitch Prince as I have grown up a lot Laughing, he adds I cannot see my missus being happy with being 'Mrs Passion' when we get married. Plus Mitch Prince is a great name anyway !

While the name may have changed a few times in his career, Prince has built up a 8-1 record, with his only loss coming by way a close points loss to Stuart Green, something which he looks to avenge. Discussing the loss,Prince speaks candidly about the errors made in the run up to the right I boxed Stuart Green for the Scottish title on my 26th birthday . I stupidly went into the Fight with 4 weeks training, which was stupid as I took Green too lightly due to his record. I fought terrible and still only lost it by a point,. I got elbowed to the back of the head an Green never received a point deduction making it a draw,but these things happen in boxing

He continues I learned never to take any fighter for granted. I have requested a re-match with Green as soon as possible. My Promoter Tommy Gilmour said I can look forward to a re-match before the end of the year. When I am certain I WILL beat Stuart Green and he is a nice guy, but in a ring with me,there's only ever going to be one winner and from now on its me

After the loss, he then took a two year hiatus in which he assessed his fighting style and made the changes ,which he thinks has made him a better fighter and proudly boasts there is more to come Since I had my 2 year break away from the sport I have adapted a new fighting style. I feel so much better and more relaxed with it. I am not done,I am just starting off. It's harder to hit me with my new style,which is never a bad thing in boxing. I'm good at what I do,confident and great to watch so let the entertainment begin!

Mitch Prince is part of a five fight card which also features Iain Butcher,Mark Bett,Giuseppe Daprato and the professional debut of Martin McCord.

Prospect Boxing: Promoter previews June 1st Card
On June 1st , Scotlands newest force in professional boxing, Prospect Boxing is holding their second professional card of the year at the Rivals Gym,Wishaw. Speaking about the card, former referee turned promoter Paul Graham is looking forward to it "This is our second show of the year, and I'm quite happy that I am able giving another young fighter a pro debut and expanding the list of fighters"

Making his debut is Ayr's Martin McCord, who will feature amongst another four bouts on the evening. A recent cancellation to Iain Butcher's (3-0) fight in Aintree has given Graham the chance to feature Butcher on the June 1st card "The card was looking topnotch, but now we have managed to add rising star Iain Butcher to it. While he was disappointed not to be fighting on the Aintree card it has given him a renewed incentive in his training and I know he is keen to give a five-star performance

He added Its not often you will see two undefeated fighters put there record on the line at this stage in their career, So with that in mind I know both Iain (Butcher) and his opponent Phil Smith will be pushing one another all the way. These are the sorts of fights that make promoting fights worth it! "

"Like our prior card, the local communities are getting behind their fighters. This time though were using Rivals Gym, which has never actually had a pro boxing show on it before, but the layout for it gives it a good setting, with good views for the crowd. One other benefit are it is licensed as well"

Also featuring on the night, and looking to end a four fight losing streak is Newton Stewart's Giuseppe Daprato who is in action over six rounds against Glasgows Ryan McNicol. Mark Bett will be looking for a strong home town support, as he takes on Harthill's Super Steve Martin over the six scheduled rounds. Completing the line up is Mitch Prince, who will compete over 6 x 2 minute rounds .

Prospect Boxing: Promoter expects a right royal ******* for June 1st show as 50/50 fights are the order of the day

Ahead of Fridays show, Scotlands newest promoter Paul Graham admits that this card is causing him a few headaches but not for the usual reasons that you would expect Ive promoted a few shows now,but I dont think any I have been involved with have had so many 50/50 fights

On Fridays show, Prospect Boxing will have a five fight card at Rivals Gym which will see some local fighters given the opportunity to showcase themselves and their talents,which is something that Graham believes adds value to the card Like any sport, the fans make the event a success and there support can spur a fighter on when their in the ring. I always try and keep my card full of local fighters as they always are well supported. Plus on Friday its the start of the Bank holiday weekend so what better way to celebrate the Jubilee weekend than an evening at the Boxing ?

While this card will be headlined by the undefeated Iain Butcher (3-0) taking on Liverpools Phil Smith (2-0), its hard to say what I think the fight of the night could be. In the three other bouts I have matched I believe there 50/50 affairs, but for the (Martin)McCord fight we are still waiting to hear back from a few offers we have made for opponents, and its proving harder to match him than I first expected

Looking through the card I cant pick a winner between Giuseppe Daprato and Ryan McNicol. Both fighters are coming off losss they picked up on the road and Daprato has vowed to overcome the loss and return to winning ways
Also in action is local favourite Mark Bett, who takes on late replacement James Smith. The Bett v Smith bout is good one as,while Bett has picked a few losses on his resume, he does graft in the ring and push his opponent. However Smith is the younger fighter, but hes coming off a loss to a fighter making his debut and that is something a fighter will always carry into his next fight. So the circumstances really open this fight up

Looking to get himself back into a title contention is Mitch Prince who takes on experienced journeyman Youssef Al Hamidi. This could be a small hall classic,and I feel could feature on any card weather its a big arena show or in a sports hall

He adds Mitch is looking for a way back into the title scene after his loss to Stuart Green and Al Hamidi is by no means a walk over. In his recent fights in Scotland he has good victories over Jason Hastie and Alexander White. It could also be argued that he gave a good account against Ricky Burns on the two occasions he has fought him

On Friday and Saturday this week, Ravenscraig Sports Facility is playing host to the 2012 GB Schoolboy Championships Championships and Prospect Boxing will be offering all entrants and there coaches the opportunity to come and enjoy our June 1st show.
We are proud to be offering the cream of the next generation of fighters the opportunity to attend our next show on June 1st at the discounted rate of £15 for all fighters and there coaches. With Rivals Gym only 3 miles away from Ravenscraig Sports Facility it would be a great way to round off a days boxing!
To qualify for the discounted entry the fighters must show there boxing medical card and either their Young Scot Card or leaflet to, the leaflet will be distributed at Ravenscraig Sports centre on June 1st. For the coaches to attend they will also have to show there relevant ABA identification along with the leaflet at the door.

With a full card of five fights featuring rising local star Iain Butcher,along with Mark Bett, Giuseppe Daprato and Mitch Prince. The event will also see former amateur start Martin McCord make his pro debut.

Right guys for any of you that are going, Doors are opening at 6.30 for a 7pm start !

Also a handful of tickets will be available on a first come first served, i know its usual that promoters will say this but we have had quite a significant amount of walk up's over the last few shows so if you haven't got a ticket please get there Early to avoid disappointment !
