As the title states, Andre Ward--a prospect who had never been in with a top 10 contender prior to tonight--just gave Mikkel Kessler a boxing lesson.

Kessler is considered by most to be Calzaghe's best win, and one of the few good fighters Joe beat that was not past prime.

Kessler, who is still no doubt in his prime, being throughly outboxed by a prospect punches a big hole through Clazaghe's resume, in the eyes of many.

Who else did Joe beat that was elite? The limited Lacy? The shot Jones Jr? The past it, weight drained Eubank? The 43 year old Hopkins?

Today is a very sad day for Calzaghe nation, IMO.

These threads are going to be hilarious.

Andre just took a dump all over one of Joe's "crown jewels".

Kessler was overrated. But I still rate Calzaghe though. Not as much as some of his supporters that claim Jones or Bhop were prime, but he was still good.

I felt the same way. Calzaghe fans on this board have been overpraising Kessler ever since Joe beat him. With Joe retired, Kessler was their one vehicle to support and hope succeed, cause the more he succeeds the more it adds to Joe's legacy... well that vehicle crashed and burned tonight.

Aye, it crashed and burned, as did Kessler's entire bandwagon.

The board seems pretty empty for the moment, all the Kessler nad Calzaghe nuthuggers are out crying into their beers. :happy

I must say though, Im surprised to see deram (aka Joeaverage) still trolling about, last time Kessler lost he went MIA for 6 months and came back under a new nick.

It's amazing how at the time that BHOP destroyed Pavlik, people were on here saying it didn't do anythng for Calzaghe's record but now that Kessler has lost, his record takes a hit. One or the other folks, can't have it both ways.

The only other fighter that gets treated like this on ESB is Mayweather.

I definitely think BHop beating Pavlik added to Joe's resume. BHop showed he was not yet nearly shot.

But at the end of the day, he was still a 43 year old fighter who was years past his best.

    Honestly, that's a fair point.

But the problem for Joe there was that the Hopkins fight was horribly ugly and the decision, while IMO probably correct, was still very disputable.

He didn't do himself any favors by avoiding a Hopkins rematch either. Ask Jermain how far you can get off of two razor thin wins over Popkins.

I agree, but both were overrated in their own way. :deal

Indeed. He made a statement with that move. Hopkins was willing to come to Wales. Calzaghe had no problems leaving it up in there air. At least Mayweather had the nerve to take the Castillo rematch. And that's Mayweather, FFS..
