A few prospects that are coming up and should impact boxing are. Shawn Estrada out of East LA is scheduled to return in spring after an injury set him back. Shawn had a great amateur career and is currently 6-0 with 6 ko's. He is scheduled to fight again April 8th. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x4ThoRXcDU[/ame] Walter "Schoolboy" Sarnoi East LA's best kept secret is set to fight March 5, 2010. Walter is 4-0 with 2 ko's he boxes out of the Famous Eddie Heredia Gym in East LA. Walter is a very sound and disciplined fighter. He is in the process of finishing his MBA at Azusa Pacific. He was born in Armenia but raised in CA. Vanes was a member of the US Olympic team. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEz5lhrGceA[/ame] Please post more prospects
Thomas Oosthuizen He's only 21 years old. Fights at supermiddle & is a southpaw. Is tall for a supermiddle (over 6'3) and has fast hands, rangy with KO power.
Never heard of Walter but thanks for filling me in, he seems to have a crazy upbringing. I dont know about Vanes though judging by his last fight I really dont see much hope in him. Have you seen the talent at Jr Middle?
Walter is a gem... the kid is real humble and has solid skills and is still early in development. I think that he could surprise people his style shows me hints of Ricardo Lopez and Erik Morales. I said hints...time will tell if pressure makes him into a diamond. He will be fighting next month and may be televised. Vanes to me is on the bubble he could go either way nonetheless he is still a prospect.
This is my list: Guillermo Regondeaux - super bantamweight Daniel Jacobs - middleweight Matt Korobov - middleweight Danny Garcia - light welterweight Mike Jones - welterweight Adrien Broner - lightweight David Lemieux - middlewight Demetrius Andrade - light middleweight Fernando Guerreo - middlewight George Groves - super middlewight Ruslan Provodnikov - light welterweight Shawn Porter - light middleweight Rico Ramos - super bantamweight Erislandy Lara - light middleweight Roberto Marroquin - super bantamweight Alejandro Lopez - featherweight Omar Henry - light middleweight Darley Perez - lightweight Oyewale Omotoso - welterweight Chris Avalos - bantamweight Frankie Gavin - light welterweight Among those with more experience: Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam - middleweight Nathan Cleverly - light heavyweight Kell Brook - welterweight Saul Alvarez - welterweight Abner Mares - super bantamweight Vanes Martirosyan - light middleweight Hector David Saldivia - welterweight Ali Chebah - light welterweight John Murray - lightweight Antonio Escalante - super bantamweight Daud Cino Yordan - featherweight Paul McCloskey - light welterweight Mike Alvarado - light welterweight
thorough list... Porter in his last performance looked bad and has pressure to impress in his next fight. Mike Alvarado if he can stay out of trouble will go very far at 140. I think Alvarado can put out Khan. James De La Rosa at Welter is a guy that if he can develop will turn heads. James was born in Mexico to a Mexican father and African American mother. He is still polishing his skills but i dont see the Lopez resemblance at all. He gets a lil wild ala Morales but of course he is still young. He better have a great chin since he neglects defense when he engages. When he throws his jab it seems powerful but he moves his right a lil and leaves himself open. Once agian he is still a rookie and should correct that in the future. He seems very exciting.
I have never really been impressed by him. I think he will get outboxed by a slick fighter. Omar Henry is the guy i need to see more of. That looks like future p4p talent.
I am actually talking about the mentality of Ricardo. Some of what he says hints to some of the mental aspects of Finito's game. Ricardo in many interviews expresses a dedication to the craft almost a Zen like quality that Walter seems to have. I actually keep in touch with Walter and the kid is a part time motivational speaker and does not waste time. Ricardo is famous in Mexico as a motivational speaker for athletes. I apologize for not elaborating further.
I am not speaking of him as a contender but rather as a prospect. He has the physical talent, however, his obstacle is the mental aspect of the game. If he can overcome that he may develop into a great prospect.
There are a lot of prospects right now who look like they could be really good, but the one who really jumps out at me as a potentially generational talent is Jose Benavidez Jr. Newer champs who give me the same feeling are Gamboa and Sonsona (if he can stay motivated). A few others who haven't been mentioned yet: Luis Garcia, Dmitry Pirog, Dominic Wade, Frankie Gomez, Gary Russell Jr
