In an ideal world sky would add some sort of prospect based show to there boxing coverage. Maybe every other week you extend Ringside to 2 hours and have an 8 rounder from the York Hall or a simular venue in the North. You could just have Smith & Nelson in the studio doing there thing but you add say.. Ronnie Heffron in an 8 rounder and have 2 other Warren fighters on the undercard. It doesn't even have to be live.
In my opinion this is the way that Warren is leaning essentially he is trying to use all his Saturday dates to bring as many of his prospect along as possible but its still not enough the problem is the sheer number of fighters he has this probably amounts to 2-3 outings a year per fighter. Its just not good enough really take Selkirk 6 fights since 08 but he has had hand problems in all fairness but he didn't fight between March and Sept last year when he was fine incidentally he blew his opponent away in a round in March and only appeared big cars cards. its already 3 months since he has been last out and he hasn't got anything scheduled so it will be at least another month until he is out. At this rate it will take him 7 years before he reaches 20 fights. There is just no reason for it
Supply and demand my friend... on these forums the demand is huge but we are only a small minority . Ur lay boxing fan is only interested in the Haye v harrison type of fight and has no interest or knowledge in the Quiggs and Joe Murrays of this world. Boxing has to compete with too many sports for a limited slice of the cake and with the increased popularity in MMA and world wide sporting events then we are struggling to be accomodated. Take a look at Sky they show at least one golfing tmt a week which is over 4 days (not that i mind too much) , tennis tmts from all over the world , rugby union from sth africa and countless football - boxing is sturggling to get a look in especially at a global level . 2 hours saturday fight night and an hour for ringside is all sky give a week plus the odd fight from the states and PPV as and when. Boxing needs to raise its profile accordingly and the fact the big fights arent being made and if they do are cancelled isnt helping our cause. Until we get our house in order then im afraid we will always be a third tier sport on TV and hence our prospects arent showcased accordingly.
i think warren is in it for the long run as well, just you wait till after 2012 - if we get a gold medal in the boxing, its a great chance for the sport to hit the big time again, and you get your ass FW will sign up that medallist. he can then put them on shows with the current guys like degale who will be abour world level and hopefully entice another broadcaster back into the sport by early 2013
I have every confidence that Frank Warren especially has a long term plan im pretty sure he is 10 steps ahead of every one else.
this is true. Fury was on ITV almost once a month, then when they pulled the plug he had to go to Sky, in which I think he has only fought on twice.
these blue chip prospects cost alot more to have fight then an ordinary prospect which means tv money and dates a necessary evil.also alot of these prospects are being managed then others, i mean take tryone nurse for example a good fighter http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=447615&cat=boxer pro since 2008 has had 15 fights against underwhelming opponents.boxing isn't a sport that follows a logical path
