Danny Jacobs and Deontay Wilder are going to be televised on Friday Night Fights tomorrow night. I know I'll be tuning in. Some comments regarding Wilder's weight from himself: “I want to be at 216 for this fight,” Wilder said. “I want to fight at a higher weight each time I fight and eventually get to 245.”
supposedly he's not far off from an HBO BAD appearance. And once that occurs, he will be HBO's latest love child. And with Kirkland's problems, they can use another.
Thanks. Varela is definately a step in the right direction. Like Oden said he can go rounds, plus he's only been beat by decent level guys like Miranda, Roman, Julio, Rubio.
I meant he's only had 15 fight's and he's 22. It looks like he's only had 14 fight's which is not alot of fight's at all so people need to stop being impatient with this kid.
he was an accomplished amateur, though. I think that is maybe the point. At this point, it serves him no purpose to keep fighting guys that may not be equal to the amateurs he fought. Fortunately, Friday is a step up.
I think the idea is to keep him active regardless of competition, I may be wrong but since trhe fall began he's taken on 4 fights or so. It seems like they want to get him as acclimated as possible AS quickly as possible before they start pushing him up the ranks a lil bit. I'd be surprised if he was still at THIS level come next year ish.
you're right and a lot of it is just building a record to impress for national TV. I'm sure some of the guys he's fought as a pro couldn't compete with the amateurs he fought on the highest level.
Indeed. I'm a big fan of Jacobs but I certainly see those who have an issue with his slow start. It seems like they're taking it slow (building him up against poor comp) while slowly accellerating the car (more and more fights in a short period of time). It'll be interesting to see how Jacobs adapts at 160 (when he should probably be at 168) when he's in there with someone who isn't paid to lay down.
