I damaged the knuckle on the index finger sparring about 2 months ago so I stopped contact training (using the bag / sparring / pads etc) until it cleared. I felt no pain with it so I decided to spar on Saturday. I put a sponge underneath my wraps over my knuckles to give a bit of added protection and it felt ok sparring. I did some pads though yesterday and I could feel it again, even just throwing light jabs / left hooks. Can anyone recommend anything else I can put around the knuckle in question to prevent the pain? It's driving me mad not being able to train properly. Maybe a better way to wrap it / things to put on it when doing pads etc.. Thanks
:deal Why put back your training even further for the sake of a few missed sessions.. Do other things..
Cheers fellas. It's driving me mad, only trained about 33% the last two months. Just wondered whether there was anything I could to limit the impact on it. Is there anything that can help speed recovery? I regularly iced it and took anti inflammataries for the first couple of weeks.
I have, for 2 months.. I'm only asking for possible ways to reduce the impact and ways to speed recovery.
Hint: Joe Frazier developed an excellent left hook when his right arm was in a sling/ cast. I think Braddock developed his jab more than ever while his right hand was broken.
Sounds like you should find a good Osteopath, following the Line of damage and manipulation should solve it.
Prioritize taking care of your injury. It's really part of being responsible with your training. You'll end up doing everything halfassed and very likely to pick up negative habits
Would you say an osteopath over a physio then? I initially went to the local walk in centre a couple of weeks after I did it as it still wasn't improving. The nurse examined it and said that she didn't think it was broken but to rest it and see a GP if it didn't improve. She said that it looks like it could be damage to the muscle / tendon at the back of the knuckle. I left it another couple of weeks and could feel it slowly getting a bit better but I didn't do any contact punching at all in that period, only shadow / circuits / sprints etc. This weekend I felt no pain in it whatsoever so decided to try punching the bag with a sponge on and sparring gloves and could still feel a sharp minor pain every time I used my left. I agree mate. I've still ticked over with my training, doing shadow boxing focusing on technique and also staying to a decent fitness level. Just want to find a way to speed recovery.
