Holyfield's foul-proof protector was too high. Lewis's was ludicrous, almost up to his nipples at times.

I dunno how they got away with it. Makes a mockery of the sport.
Fair enough, both guys seemed happy to carry it like that, but that's hardly the point. No one likes to get hit in the ribs, but there's got to be rules enforced against covering about 40% of legit target areas.
Obviously, the referee was at fault, blind perhaps. Commonsense tells us the cups were unacceptable.
Those things were introduced to protect the family jewels, not the ribcage, abdomen and liver.

Dont forget the Tyson Holyfiled fight, or DLH vs Vargas.

I dont know when this started, but it has to stop. A body puncher cant get any good body shots in with thsos type of cups.

Lewis disappointed me when he did this. I beleive the Holyfield camp complained, but when the fight is about to go, it is up to the ref and the commissioner to enforce the rules, which say a fighters trunks should be below the belly button. In this case, Lewis' foam cup guard was protecting his ribs.

It was dissapointing that the Holyfield camp did'nt make a stink about the situation......It was just ridiculous the way Lewis had that protector up that high.

Boxing just stinks as far as looking for it to enforce their rules properly.

DLH's protector was equally as high when he fought Fernando Vargas.
Imo, had DLH been made to wear that protector properly, I'm convinced it would have been him who would have folded down the stretch.
Vargas hit him with vicious shots right onto the sides of that body protector DLH wore!:-(

DLH's protector was not quite as high as Lewis's, but I agree otherwise. The commission needs to regulate these high protector cups.

I remember reading an article in a boxing mag a little while back, they were saying that Holyfield was one of the first to really use the high cup, when he fought Tyson. Interesting that one of the worst offenses ever of this high cup was someone against Holyfield.

Holyfield's was high, but more reasonable than fights like Lewis-Holyfield I, DLH-Vargas, and Hopkins-Holmes.
