Unless they file the protest at the US Congress, the decision will remain in Ward's favor. Boxing is based on bribery, and JayZ has more money than Kathy Duva. He will just pay off the right people on the commission, and they will do as he says. But wealth is even beside the point, because Kathy Duva doesn't give me the impression that she pays bribes at all. She seems oblivious to the way other promotors like Top Rank, Golden Boy and Roc Nation do business.
Kovalev put Weeks in a very tough spot. 1. Kovalev kept crying about shots that were legal or borderline, so when he was crying in the last moment of the fight, what was Weeks supposed to do, especially when Weeks kept seeing the legal punches land and Kovalev reacting the same way after every punch to the belt line. (crying wolf) 2. Kovalev was slumped forward making it hard to see where that last punch landed, so much so that we have needed to slow it down, zoom in, enhance quality etc.. Why? Because it was not clear.
Agreed, Ward showed his superiority and had Kova in trouble. The stoppage however, was complete bollocks. Having been warned for low blows twice, Ward really should have had a point taken away, and Kova awarded 5 minutes to recover. If Kova was truly hurt from legal punches then he should have at least been given an eight count.
Oh! god! kovalev looks so different since he lost to ward!! https://media.giphy.com/media/Vq5djeWOqbmSc/giphy.gif He doesnt look very scary to me now. Please, I would like to make a call: dear fighters, dont hit him very hard, it's so sad to see him crying...
Refs are often put into tough spots. It's part of the gig. Just like some matches turn into rough and tumble type fights. It's up to the ref and the fighters to adjust. And I agree. The only way I was able to identify that last punch as low..at least in my opinion, was after slow mo replay. I'm sure it would be tough in real time. But calling off the fight in that instance the ref put himself in a bad spot. He had a few other options..let the fight go, call it a low blow since he had already given ward a warning or two, or call it a KD because the ropes were keeping Kovalev up. Now he's in a rough spot because Kov's team are protesting the fight based on a low blow that ended the fight. How will it play out? No clue. I think 99% the decision stands. But it's still an issue ending the fight on a low blow. It's my understanding that the Rigo fight has already been ruled a NC because of the lunch after the bell. Is a TKO from an illegal low blow any different?
I absolutely disagree with that. The punch initial impact was on the capital B well below the belt line.
In reality it isn't much different because a knockout was the result of an illegal action. You could say the same thing about the Rigo fight that he was going to win anyway. My question is why is boxing so far behind in implementing technology to better the sport. Unbiased fans want to see a fair contest. What if Kovalev won by a low blow. Would the Fans of Ward say the same thing they are saying now?
Don't really want to see the third in the series, but would buy if that's what ended up happening. Whatever your take on these fights, both guys have a claim on a piece of my disposable income. Remember folks, they didn't duck one another or wait til' they were near irrelevant. They took the risks. Twice. Vote with your wallet.
I agree with this! Though I'm not sure how it would work, but replay def needs to be used. It's my understanding that the ref and commission officials even refused to review the replay sat night. Surely someone can figure this out.
Except for the slow motion camera angle zoomed in on the action that shows Andre Ward hitting Kovalev low... If you discount all the video and media reports, then yeah, there is zero evidence.
