I swear he would have beaten Matthysse, Bradley and Herrera in 15 rounders. He truly is a fighter who was born in the wrong era.
And he needs to throw to the body a lot more... Yes If Ruslan had a solid jab , he would be the #1 most avoided fighter in boxing today .
I was amazed at the punishment he was able to take and not get stopped or even stop coming forward. Freakishly tough both mentally and physically.
Ruslan is extremely durable. To take the type of beating he did early on (from such a big puncher), and still make the fight competitive is a testament to that fact. I think one of Ruslan's major problems, in my opinion, is that he has to be set to punch.
You can still learn how to box at 30+ Ruslan Provodnikov needs to before he gets a journeyman record. He needs a defence.
I don't think Roach has done a good job preparing RP. His defense is still much too weak. He has to be taught how to properly defend himself. I think a top trainer could catapult RP even higher. It is getting late in the game, though.
Matthysse would have had a different game plan if it was a 15 rounder tho Psssshhhhhhh..did you see the 12th Provo still couldn't land shhhh
Lucas had stated before the fight that he was going to BOX... They knew Provodnikov was very limited and one dimensional...
I agree, he very rarely punches in anything other than exchanges. He waits for his opponent to unload up close then unleashes 4 or 5 hooks. Stay out of exchanges and box, you beat Ruslan, he's very basic.
