In my honest and non-biased opinion, Provodnikov deserved the nod in that fight. Taking nothing against Algeri, I mean the guy showed a lot of skill and heart, getting up from two knockdowns and overcoming a grotesquely swollen right eye in order to showcase his boxing ability. Kinda reminded me of Pac-Marquez 1 in that regard. However, having said that, Provo landed the more telling and harder punches. Ruslan barely had a scratch on his face in comparison to the damage shown on Algeri's... I dont think Provo is gonna want a rematch...Algeri is just all wrong for him. In addition to thiis, Algeri doesnt bring that much money on the table. The next route with Ruslan would probably be a fight with Rios, given the fact that both fighters just lost and need a fight to bolster their reputation and confidence again..
totally agree, algieri showed heart, had a great gameplan and fought well, but weak pity pat shots that never hurt or even scratched prov. the judges must have been using olympic style point system lmao!!!!!!
If you want to talk about quality look no further than the number of clean shots algeri was landing. Quality shots are the cleaner shots not the more powerful ones (which in this case were often through the guard or grazing)
It's disgraceful that there are fans who think they know more than Freddy Roach who was there. He KNEW PLODodnikov was losing.
It's not about damage it's about landing the most punches and Algeri did that. When will you people realize this? Algeri outwirked and outlanded Provo in damn near every round.
It's a balancing act and the slim margin that he outworked and outlanded Provodnikov isnt enough to overtake his more meaningful punches in this particular case. It's not like he threw and landed twice as many punches. Total Provodnikov 205 of 776, 26% Algieri 288 of 993, 29%
this isn't an amateur scoring system this is the pros, algieri had a 3 point deficit in the 1st round u don't take the title from the champ w pity pat punches. ruslan didn't have a scratch on him yet they gave his title to one eyed willy.
It's neither all about 1 or the other. It is a subjective scoring system. Simply scoring more punches doesn't mean you win the round. Simply scoring the harder punches doesn't win you a round. Rather it is the effective combination of the 2 along with the other scoring criteria which win a round. It being a subjective thing is why there are so many disparate opinions when it comes to certain fights. The 2 judges who scored it for Algieri clearly valued the busier work. For a guy not blessed with KO power, he does what he has to. I personally scored it for Provo, but could easily see why it went the other way. Provo is out to take his guy out, because he can't move around and isn't quick enough to engage in a boxing match with him. Who imposed their style more is a damned good question, better than blankly asking who landed more or who landed harder.
