Pryor vs Mayweather. Who you got?

I think Hearns would destroy Trinidad, personally, who`s boxing skills were limited - at least compared to Hearns - he was slower & had less power than Tommy too, both had better chins than given credit for but it wasnt their strong point.

DLH outboxed Tito while Hearns outboxed Ray Leonard, says it all.

Hearns would destroy Tito IMO. Two or 3 rounds.

 

For me i go PBF. He'd struggle early with intensity and speed but he adapts and his defense would help him see off the early storm and his crisp counters would start to win him the fight. You gotta mix it all up to get to PBF....it ain't just one thing you have to mix up so many things...it's chess with him....you could win 2 rounds due to your speed he makes a switch and negates that takes the next round then you gotta find another way to penetrate that guard and take him out of his comfort zone. I think his brain and skills win him the fight on points in a classic match up.

 

This thread has had me frustrated.

Alexis Arguello was awesome in his fight with Pryor, he was looking to counter Pryor and landed awesome counter shots. At such a high pace aswell Arguello kept his composure and skills, although he was past prime and above his weight.

Anyway Alexis Arguello's counter-punching skills are superior to Floyd Mayweather Jr's, Arguello also hits harder and was not able to keep Aaron off.

Mayweather has the edge in defence but what is defence when you do not have the capabilities to keep a swarming monster off of you. All it is, is a damage limitation excersize.

Anyway Floyds best was at SFW-LW

 

I'd go with Pryor. How is it a style matchup in favour of Mayweather? Pryor pretty much does what you have to do to beat Mayweather. It's not rocket science, you can't fanny around trying to get a precise jab going unless you are of Hearns dimensions. Mayweather's movement and speed is going to combat that all day. You have to get stuck in, you have to be able to walk through whatever he has, you have to be completely relentless, and you have to have the ART of pressure fighting down which is what Hatton lacked. You are going to catch a lot of counters, its inevitable, but its about coming though that and breaking him down non-stop.

Duran had an even better style to do it because he was a lot more scientific.

It isn't rocket science...if you don't have physical advantages over Mayweather there is no point fannying around trying to outbox him in a tactical fight. Only great welterweights and above are likely capable of that. It's never going to work otherwise. At junior welter and below its always going to be pressure fighters that have the style to trouble him, unless we're admitting he's invincible below 147 which I don't believe for a second.

 

Lads read the articles I posted and Aaron Pryor fits the specifications pretty well IMO

 

I've only skimmed those articles (its late and TFFPs was hard enough for me!!) but posting a theoretical specification/ method to beat Mayweather, based on a number of different fights and that that no one has been able to follow successfully is a bloody big "MAYBE" for any fighter to implement. Pryor included.

I just think a great pressure fighter would have a good chance. Whether a swarmer like Pryor or a more technical approach like Duran. Even against Hatton, while I didn't score much his way he was getting close enough to do work he just didn't have the ability to work the openings and was far too open himself. I think between that and the Castillo fight you could see who might have had a chance and what could have happened.

 

The one thing I think Pryor lacks which is a decent thing to have in you'r tool box to fight Mayweather is a strong jab, Pryor lacks that IMO.

I'd personally go with Pryor, he just seemed like an absolute beast at the weight, Floyd hasnt looked as awesome at the higher weights in comparison to his days at 130, where he looked unstoppable.

but in all honesty, I couldnt see Floyd ever taking the fight lol

 

Duran would annihilate Floyd.
