...and we still all got mad love for you, champ! He is keeping his thumb squarely on the pulse of the sport throughout his recovery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk3BpoRQPXQ I'll paraphrase some of his key points: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather? If they fight, after so much build-up, they damn well better fight. I want blood. I want both of them bloody. Deontay Wilder? Yeah, he alright... (politely dismissive :yep) I tell you a guy I respect and love. A guy, him and his brother came up with me, we trained all together and stuff. This guy, Lamont - he could box. Left-handed, right-handed, can box like crazy. You don't want to make him fight though, because he will fight too. He used to mess me up with the boxing y'know, because he so slick, I used to be like, alright forget it, let me get him to bang with me instead but he likes to bang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Q7sw0E28M Holding court at the gym: A hundred dollars, two hundred, I don't care - put that in the bank, since you don't know when your last fight is gonna be. Do something with your money. He gives some advice on real estate and says he is lucky that he gave himself a cushion to fall back on when life pulled the rug out from under his feet (on the doorstep of a big payday, no less, and of his brother's wedding at which he was supposed to be the best man) He also talks about never letting on with your facial expression or body language how badly hurt you are - to be "like a rock". He says Margarito caught him with some unbelievably painful shots that made him question whether he could take any more but he didn't show it. He says this messes with your opponent's confidence when his best stuff has no obvious effect, and conversely you can tell by what your opponent reacts to where he is vulnerable and just target wherever he really doesn't like getting hit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0xevZwgX28 I only want to see Mayweather dethroned as king if someone does it right (that is, by authoritative knockout, leaving no doubt) - I don't want to see any controversial decision or anything, or someone awarded the win because they landed some decent punches on him that nobody else has. TAKE his crown, if you want it (because it should've been me!! - and that's how I would've gone about it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4fEFOoaBfs Williams admits he was still not in a position to challenge Mayweather yet when he suffered his accident. He says beating Canelo might have been his ticket, but he doesn't feel it was overdue and thinks he was still "up and coming" when Floyd was "the hot thing". He also liberally sprinkles in his "Nahmsaying" catchphrase, more than in the other three videos combined.
He appears healthy - and happy, as ever. I'm still holding out hope that he is someday cleared to return, if even just for one cash-out match-up. I'd even be okay with him cutting in line to a title shot first thing (especially if Cotto is still clutching the green belt when that happens, since that was a very talked about match-up when they were both welterweights and would tie up that era with a bit of closure). Is that wrong? I mean, if Vitali can hold WBC emeritus status, they can extend the same courtesy to Williams having won back to back world title eliminators (Lara WBC, Ishida WBA) before his injury. :deal
I was so bummed I think Paul would have got the win over Saul if that match had of taken place (I didn't like Canelo that much back then) he looked great against Ishida and in my opinion was on the road to a comeback Lara and Sergio like Quintana before were just bad style matchups for him.
I don't know Canelo's 71" reach vs Paul's 79" reach that would be a hell of a lot for Canelo to overcome, especially since he gassed more frequently back then and Paul's workrate would have worn his ass out.
