Pulev vs Oquendo in play for the fake WBA title

Well this should get rid of Oquendo. Pulev seems like a fine trinket belt holder.

 

I'd gouge out my own eyes if Oquendo became champion.....he was crap in his prime and is crap now.

 

wba rankings are a joke... I believe charr is still TOP 5 in them... lol

 

He was a serviceable top ten contender back in the day. That being said he is fossilized now.

 

Just imagine if Oquendo won the belt and the boxing world had to endure Joshua v 60yo Oquendo for the belts.

The thing is Hearn would still put it on PPV.

The WBA's rankings are horrendous.

At least that reduces the chance of Oquendo becoming the oldest HW "champ" in history by winning and then holding on to it against WBA kinda "challengers"

 

Pulev never wanted to fight Joshua. He thought Joshua was going to rematch with Wlad, and they were going to try to get the IBF to strip Joshua. Then Wlad retired. And Joshua decided to fight his IBF mandatory Pulev, and Pulev's butthole puckered up and he ran for the hills.

So, of course Pulev wants to fight Fres Oquendo for a vacant belt. Fighting for a vacant belt (IBF or WBA, doesn't matter) was his plan all along.

I'm not quite sure how the WBA is going to justify the seventh-rated Pulev fighting Oquendo for a vacant belt when Ustinov and Charr are fighting an eliminator, and both are rated higher than Pulev is in the WBA ratings.

Regardless, the WBA is a cancer. If they wanted to clean up the WBA belt mess that they made, all they had to do was name the Joshua-Klitschko winner THEIR SOLE champ and leave it at that. Instead, they continue to collect fees on "regular" belts and eliminators and all the rest.

Oquendo hasn't won a fight forever. If the fight does happen, Pulev will grab the vacant belt, take it home and hold it for dear life.

Regardless of these meaningless belts, though, I would like to see a Pulev-Ustinov rematch. Which could happen in this nonsensical WBA scenario. But all these players are like their own separate division.

On one level, there's Joshua, Wilder, Parker, Tyson Fury (if he gets his act together) the roiders in Povetkin and Ortiz, Usyk (when he decides to move up), Haye (after he beats Bellow) ...

On a lower, almost like minor-league level or an old-timers league, there's Oquendo, Ustinov, Pulev, Charr ... all the 'has-beens' and 'never-weres' who are still fighting for manufactured belts.
