punch wise, where 12 round fights the same as 15 round fights?

i was always curios if fighters where able to maintain the pace that fighters fight in the past 15 round champion fights as they do now in the 12 round fights.

punch output and power punches, i wish they had a compubox back then:?

It's hard to compare. Since fights went over 12 rounds, it's wise to invest a bit more in strength and power at the cost of stamina.

Tua vs Ibeabuchi had more punches thrown than Ali/Frazier III despite the latter being two rounds longer. But there are opposite examples too. Ali averaged an insane amount of 60 punches a round (15 rounds) in his first fight with Frazier. By comparison, Lewis' maximum was 56 punches a round over 12.

The Gatti/Ward trilogy consisted of 10 round fights and they packed a ridiculous amount of punches into them.

Battling Nelson and Ad Wolgast managed to average about 85 punches per round each over the first 42 rounds of a 45 round fight.

While this is perhaps an exceptional outlyer it proves that the punchrates of a 12 round fight can be maintained over greater distances.
