With all of the Mugabi discussions going on recently there was a mention of how Mugabi wasn't quite the same after losing to Hagler.

What other punchers fell off whether it be a smaller amount or drastically after their first loss?

I would say that Benn lost his aura of invincibility when he lost to Michael Watson.

Yep, long gone by then. Maybe he lost a tad of enthusiasm and aggressiveness?

    Agree JT1.

With the passing years Benn morphed from a reckless 160lber to a more mature rounded SMW (particularly the Wharton fight) but the McLellan fight...my god I've never seen anyone BRAVER. After going that deep into your mental and physical resources, how could anybody want to dig that deep ever again?

Jaime Garza after he lost to Juan Meza

Garza was so hyped, I remember reading about him in USA Today. He was getting a ton of press - even though his competition had been weak. He won the spurious IBF title over Bobby Berna.

I remember KO magazine, in about 1987, writing a summation of Garza after a loss -

"All offense, no defence - no good."

Of course they had hyped him earlier.

Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr, but they seem to be the obvious answers.

Donald Curry should be worth mentioning.

Find a puncher who was rendered any more impotent than Paul Fuji was vs Nicolino Locche. The physical punishment that he took was minimal compared to his being totally discouraged and defeated mentally.
