Hey guys, I've been boxing for over a year now and plan on having my first match by the end of august. I have a vid up of me working on a bag. Any critiques would be helpful to tighten up my form. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f103GnAaRQ[/ame]
I also think I try to snap at the end of my punches to bring them back really fast. Are you suppose to punch right on thru and then pull back? I use to get told to not "admire" your punches by leaving them out to long. Does the snapping style that I have appeal to amature competition where fast, snappy punches rack you up points?
I don't think so, as was pointed out, they look too short. Compare your punches to Khan's, if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. He does fast (and IMO deceptively hard) flurries, but the punches are almost always fully extended.
You have to move your head more. Throw a combo, move your head. Your bag is too small... your need a bigger bag so you can work downstairs. The short punches are ok if you are low going to the body. Need to work in and out more.
Whoever your trainer is... get a new one. Here's a lad I coached from scratch after 8 months. Only see him 2 hours a week... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwiy_M-m1DY[/ame] No where near perfect but thats where you should be.
Not bad at all for 8 month, hes got a cracking straight right and a good left hook. My advice to the poster is if you arent already sparring and youve just been training a year on bags etc, i would hold on for the fight and get some quality time in sparring done with a coach watching, just so you can see what can and cant be done. if youve just been training on that bag then your going to have lots of painful bad habits and you wont realise until your in there.
My first lesson when starting sparring after a few months on pads/bags: putting your hands near your face doesn't make a guard.
im no expert but your jab and straights almost look something more akin to kung fu. With the aim being lots of light fast strikes, but they dont seem to be fully developed by the time they hit the bag. Might just be the camera. If you arnt already with a trainer then you need to get there and do another 6 months maybe even a year correcting bad habbits ! before even thinking about fights!
