In Adam Pollacks 1st volume of Jack Johnson."The Rise",its stated that Jim Jeffries recorded a figure of 1,100lbs on a machine. Bob Fitzsimmons 1,070lbs Sam McVey 1,270lbs
I can get 950+ on every fairground punch machine in the country, video evidence can be provided for confirmation......
For you pound for pound punching fans, team USA took a crack at this for the Olympics, and Jeff " left kook " Lacy, who wasn't a super heavy, heavy, or light heavyweight had the best result. The team heavy was Clavin Brock, a solid professional puncher,. I think Lacy had a 1,000
Interesting as you " think " Jeffries wasn't a big puncher, yet he outscores Fitz. Will follow for other measurements from Dempsey, Marciano, Liston, and Tyson
I didnt say he wasnt a big puncher,I said he wasnt a huge puncher, and imo his power is overated.McVey outscored both Jeffries and Fitz. I've no idea if that means anything or not.I posted this for general interest not for you to further your warped agenda.
Using that would've been a great way to gague who the hardest puncher in history is. Shame it's not such a common practice nowadays.
Fitz was a huge puncher, wasn't he? So anyone who scores above him must also be a huge puncher over very close to him. I guess by saying you didn't say Jeffries wasn't a big puncher, you're indicating he was. Okay, moving on from that point... Pollack is quoting an article from the San Fran Chronicle. Sam McVey was a puncher for sure, but which class opponent did he ever KO? A fair question, not Wills, Johnson, Jeannette, or Langford despite having 20+ fights ( I'm not going to count, it could be more than that ) vs. the combined names. Surely with all these fights, had he landed one or two good ones, which the probability says he did, yet didn't get a KO. On the film, McVey is very crude. A left hook only type who doesn't set the punch up with a jab or feint. He does seem to retreat when the other guy is punching back and lands, although to be fair, we can only judge on the available footage vs. Jim Battling Johnson
I heard Shavers was close to 1600. It's likely not true, but who knows? Promoters who have punchers at heavyweight would be smart to test them and release the results. Not sure why they don't. Probably because few rate above 1,000.
The local night club installed one of them machines to try and stop brawls breaking out, it back fired causing more arguments especially if a 7 stone whippet was getting a higher score than a 16 stone beast.
