i usually use the heavy bag about 15 minutes at a time and when i'm done i'm bleeding between my fingers. the other day while sparring i ripped the skin of a knuckle; in both cases i had tape and 14 oz gloves.
is this a sign of correct punching power or just routine damage?

Dont know much but it may as easily be bad wrapping. Ever pushed your fist against a wall and pull down as hard as you can? Bad wrapping can have the same effect.
    Me + bad wraps + old gloves(Russian ) = blood bath.

This isnt taking the ****, what you can try is cutting a Sanitary towel in half. Then put them on underneath your wraps, works well.

What do you mean tape? Did you just put tape over your hands/knuckles? without gauze or a handwrap?

    OK just making sure.

Did you come far enough down over your knuckles when wraping your hands? If you don't the wrap will sometimes get pulled back when you stick your hand into your glove leaving your skin exposed.

Sometimes I still get little cuts on my knuckles even with wraps and a sponge in them for extra padding. Especially from throwing uppercuts on a heavy bag.

    First post :D

I know a couple people with wrist problems who use more than one wraps, make sure your covering your whole knuckle. I used to get some damage when i got some new gloves, it took a while to wear them in but i used vaseline to help prevent bleeding - use a ton of it around your knuckles.

Maybe use two sets of wraps for extra support? I did this, and it sorted the problem.

Most people that have injured their hands in some way do. And some smart people who haven't hurt their hands yet do anyways just as a precaution.

Better to take a couple extra seconds while wrapping your hands to put some extra padding in then have to miss time training cause you hurt your hand.
