people dont "lose power" when moving up - what happens is that they may lose some of the factors that allow them to use that power relative to their opponent.
Exactly. I think the current CW crop is the most deep, and some real freaks there. Breidis one time starched charr brutally. But he is a cw
Wouldn't be that crazy if Shavers hit harder but ill go with evidence. Wladimir Klitschko knocked out super heavyweights. Shavers knocked out small heavyweights or cruiserweights. So probably Wladimir
Wlad based on the evidence. Not even Wilder is knocking out guys with the short crisp shots Wlad was earlier in his career.
Not probably. About as close to 100% Wlad as you can be. I liked Shavers and his fights were usually exciting - someone was gonna get KO'd. But you pointed out the obvious. Shavers fought in an era of smaller HWs, some below 200#. A 6'3" 220# HW was "big" in his era. Wlad fought and KO'd bigger HWs. Look, Shavers was among the top punchers in his era, maybe the best. But Wlad was a huge puncher in an era of SHWs. And if you want to talk punch resistance/jaw, I think Wlad > Shavers. Forget Quarry, Shavers was stopped by Ron Stander, a tough man level HW.
I'll go along with my old buddy Randall Tex Cobb. He claims Earnie was the only man that ever really hurt him. He said Earnie's punches shook him from head to toe. He said everyone claimed his fight with Larry Holmes was a terrible beating but Larry never hurt him the way Earnie did. In fact Tex asked the referee for 3 more rounds at the end of the fight. He said " Larry cant hit me no more he hands are busted up I can knock him out & be World Champ" I ran into that ref Steve Crosson in Dallas he confirmed Tex story he said Tex was dead serious, for once, but of course I couldnt give him them
Wlad hit harder. Shavers could crack but he looked more powerful because the guys he was knocking out were a lot smaller than Wlads opponents. Both should definitely be in everyone’s top 3 heavyweight hitters
In terms of punching power. The hardest puncher in all of boxing history might very well be Deontay Wilder or Wladimir Klitschko. They slay superheavyweights 6'4+ 235+. Im not even sure shavers fought 1 opponent that big. Although other factors can play a part like the chin of some fighters. Im pretty damn sure shavers could knock out david price. shavers probably has more power than some SHWs, maybe even a good majority of them. But he fought in an era before the giants took over. He's a modern day cruiserweight. And size matters. It's why Foreman claimed 6'5 231 lb Gerry Cooney hit him harder than anyone else.
wilder looks to have ridiculous power, more so than anyone in history. I’d love to see it tested against iron chinned fighters though, today’s equivalent of a David Tua or even a Sam Peter. Those blockhead types with no neck and all stock.
facts why anybody would think earn is the hardest even though it's been boxers sense him mutiple that hit harder is weird why say he hit the hardest still when he didnt
